I have the SBM billet block. I didn't have any issues until I stroked it.I've had to have the head and cylinders trued several times and then surface honed. So far it is holding good with copper gasket spray and 60 ft/lb. torque on A.P.E. studs. And this is on a used head gasket. I talked to someone at MIR and believe he was from Adams who said they only had luck sealing by oring-ing it. I believe he said .020 copper wire. I have yet to spray my 40 shot until I can get the bike to start.

so copper spray on a MLS HG?
Im wondering if a copper gasket and SS rings would be possible with the bores so big on normal spacing?
is this block still available? when did you get yours Pete?

I had to separate the steels to get a coat on them. I've had the block for about 4 years maybe.I get the gaskets thru cometic but always remind them they are not off set. There definitely isn't much room between cylinders.Same price as Muzzy's, I'ld go with the off set next time now that Karl found the solution.

Scott, Yup, mine lives, but i'd go witg an 86mm block if i were u...
87mm is too problematic, either way.

Especially if you will be spraying. I was talking to a guy who ran pro-mod. His 12 was a stock motor and made the power by spray. Very reliable that way. LOL, I should have talked to him years ago.

Im actually quite sure ill be running NA from now on. a better chassis setup and a big motor would reach my goals and be a lot more user friendly. If i get the nitrous bug I do think the Muzzy block would be best, but for a NA motor you can sacrifice wall thickness for getting the combustion chambers lined up right?
besides getting the journals offset to match the muzzy block, what else is required to get it to live? why is it problematic?

It just doesn't seem worth the time and expense for 33cc's, imo. Think of the cost of a failure.
You are probably only looking at 5 or 6 hp difference max between the two, depending on how dialed in the rest of the setup is.

thats very true.... a 3x4.6 or 3x5 would be pretty close for a lot less $$... my 3x4 wasnt even mapped properly and it was running pretty good...
i just get these "if i won the lottery" ideas every now and then
