Geezers only need to see this.........

First of all I know this has absolutely nothing to do with the dragracing forum but this section is where most my buds hang out.

If you're reading this and are under mid-fifties it'll probably bore you, heck it might even bore the geezers!

Back in 1968 my dad had a new Honda 305 Superhawk and my brother had a new 305 Scrambler. I really wanted a Super 90 but in Tennessee you were limited to 7 horsepower at 14 years old so I paid half and my dear old dad paid the other half of a brand spanking new S65.........$325 OTD. The Super 90's cranked like 9 hp.....crazy!!

I sold the bike after several years but kept the original '68 license plate.

Fast forward to two weeks ago. A guy in Wisconsin bought a black S65 from the original owners and he needed some money for an Alaska m/c trip so he contacted me, we had been talking for 6 months qand he knew I wanted a black 65.
The bike is all original and has 1596 miles on it, even has the OEM tires! It had been in a bedroom for 39 years.

Me & momma loaded up and made a 1,600 mile roundtrip to buy the 'lil Honda and it was worth it!!

We swung over into Iowa and stopped by the shop where American Pickers is at and low & behold they had a red metalflake open face helmet with a dark bubble shield, just like I had back in the day so I had to buy it. You can see it in the picture.

Another cool thing is that I got to register the bike and use my original '68 license plate.

I got home and rode around the block and my son Chad asked how it ran and I replied " it's not near as fast as I remember".

Below is a couple shots, the first in '68 and again last week. Before you say anything I already know I'm a little grayer and a few (okay a lot) pounds heavier but I still have a smile on my face.

This puts to rest that old saying that you can't go back.

Dan

by god, I'm a geezer, and i truly love to read/see posts like this! :BIGTHUMB

Dan,
you are demented in the best of ways, heading out to buy a piece of yr youth, prolly spending more on expenses than on the bike.

When i look at you as a kid, i see the helmet as a forecast of things to come (belly)

GREAT write up, thanks for posting it!

yr bud, Karl

BTW:
Compare the look on yr face, old vs new, same Dan-face, yup.

Actually the early picture was in my dads backyard and the later one is in Chads backyard, notice the tracks from his motocross track???

One more thing I forgot..........I also got the original title and license plate from Wisconsin.

Killer find, Dan! I love the plate continuity.
There is actually a sort of Honda 90 & 65 club here in Bend. I see several different ones around and they ride together sometimes. They are mostly corrupted scooter people.
Good one!

Its amazing what even the Z50's are going for in good shape now!!!

So, whats next? Cam? piston? 1 tooth down in the front?

Good catch Ali !!

Jim was probably thinking I'd just use it for dragracing and maybe playing on the street!

Thought about riding it to Loring next year and running up there but if I left after the snow melted in the spring I'd probably get caught in fresh snow come fall before I made it back home. :-)

One thing about it..........it'll run a max of 54mph in the 1/8th, 1/4, mile, mile & a half or at the Salt. I won't have to carry extra sprockets!

Dr. Dan!! What can I say? I remember a friend of mine with an Orange one! Very clean and now I may still have to buy either a Triumph Tiger Cub or 125 Harley Hummer. Naw, I remember the Aeromachi (how ever you spell it) and one was enough! But a 175 or 200 Tiger Cub, Now that would be Fun! My second choice would be either a NSU 250 cc Super Max or a 250 cc Zundapp Super Saber. In Ohio we had Under 5 hp law and we put the stickers on these bikes. All of this was fine until a guy Jerry Freeland put the sticker on a 1957 Sportster I hate you for stirring these feelings
