I've crashed twice on a drag strip. Except in my case it was during a road race, in the rain and the friggin VHT is about the slickest shit on earth in the rain!! Long slides due to real high speed get offs! No broken body pieces!!

I just remembered a serious Crash I had at Indy Race Way Park. It was about 1976 I was riding my QA50 Pit BikeI was (of course) in a Hurry and decided to "Jump" this small ditch (Maybe 4 feet wide), Well I didn't quite make it. Actually the bike Crashed into the Hill on the other side of the ditch and stopped Immediately. I then crashed Chest first into the Handle bars and then both me and the Bike fell over to the right. I could not breathe I hurt so hard and the People around me could not breathe either from laughing so hard, so I laid on the side of the Ditch with the QA 50 between my legs forever (2 or 3 minutes ) before I could get up. Here was the #4 ranked WERA Road Racer laying in a ditch whipped my a QA 50. I did not sell that bike until 1997 to a collector! Now, does this count??

Hahaha. That's a great story, Vincent.

kcadby....Too funny.....

Don't feel bad!!! Here is a quick story....

Kzz1 was drag racing his old Kaw a few years ago. A good freind of his was going in for surgery and would not be able to ride for a while. He was begging Kzz1 to let him ride the bike. " Just let me make a pass!!!"...

Well, Kzz1 gave in.................

LOL...our friend lined up at the light and was ready for his super duper run!!!! He staged and was looking ready!!!! He punched the throttle, the bike launched like all hell.....Well, the problem was that the rider (our buddy) was not on the bike. The bike launched right out from under him.
His ass slide of the seat as the bike started the 1/4 mile with-out him..

Man, it would not have been so funny if our buddy wasn't standing straight up just looking dumb founded and the bike laying on it side just past the 60ft.......LOL....He never fell and was not hurt.....but Man, I am sure his pride was DEAd!!!!

You had to see it!!!!

I know someone that "thought they were ready" to ride a car-tire bike
It would have been REALY funny when he "rolled off the back of the bike" but...he DID break his Collar Bone when he "got involved with the wheelie bars"
The bike actually went almost 1000FT!!! with no one on it though
We DID laugh AT/WITH him a week later though

That's okay, live and learn I guess. No more 100+mph wheelies for me, I've learned to lift off the throttle if you can believe it! I'm no StarBoyz stuntrider that's for sure! I'll keep it close to the ground and going fast!

When I got my 12 back in spring 00 went to Englishtown for a shootout, first pass sucked on motor 10.01 @ 147 mph second pass hit the juice in second and flipped over backwards ouch. Later at the WOrld finals in Gainsville I was talking with a few of the boys up in the tower and one of the Owners of ETown comments about a guy wrecking a brand new 12 and they had not even been released yet other than the prototype Rickey had. That turkey crashed huge he says, I lean over and go that turkey was me on the silver 12 it;s there in the lane. Hmmm I thought you looked familiar and everyone had a chuckle including the turkey!

Not that day and I think I had the whole foot in there lol.

A year and half ago I had a wheelie go bad at 190 mph hit rev limiter in 6th and then it came back, over I went. Broken collarbone, all my left side ribs, left knee, dislocated left hip, fractured left elbow and left wrist, one of my ribs broke on the vertebrea, and left big toe. They told me the ride to hospital was fast but I don't remember for some reason. Totally destroyed all my leathers boots and helmet but they saved my skin and kept all the broken parts in one place. Two knee surgeries and two shoulder surgeries later I'm getting better I think they are going to do my hip also as it is still a problem. Other than that I guess I'm more or less in one piece. Damn always wondered what it was like to be in an air ambulance and I missed the ride. Getting too old for this stuff I don't bounce anymore.

190 mile an hour wheelie, that looped up and over and at 190? What was this on? Unless your running over 300 hp, I'm sorry but I have to call BS. Explain this to me. I run a 1361 with NOS and my name "ZHooligan" was given to me by my riding buddies. I have pulled some hell big and long wheelies, but the aerodynamics alone won't let me pull a 190 mile an hour wheelie on my 256 horsepower ZX12.

I'm making 282 hp at the tire with nitrous and no it was almost not survivable, I have been off work for two years now and had 4 operations and another one coming up in a few months for my hip. 190 mph may not be exact it was more of a reference sixth gear rev limiter with 17/48 gearing is actually 177 mph if you need an exact number I guess that would be it. I have been on one wheel in sixth gear a few times and hit limiter and not exactly positive why that time it reacted that way it usually dies and falls but the new nitrous set up is much stronger so it is possible that is what caused it. Getting to old for this and have not tried it since past fourth gear, I don't bounce anymore.
Z, I don't anything about your bike except what I read here sounds good to me how is the 1361 to ride on the street I have heard that it is more of a track application than street. I have been riding for since I was four 34 years now and done some wicked wipeouts and walked away but I must admit this one was the worst of all of them, here are a few links to articles on my bikes check it out I think you will like them. Talk to you later.

Actually the 1361 in my opinion is easier to ride on the street then the 1270 was. IT is torque friendly and you can short shift it around town, be in the wrong gear etc. I like it!

Your 160ish wheelie gone bad is in the realm of what I can definitely believe. I have had a few 145 to 150 ish range that have been both good and bad landings. Broken Fenders, bent rims, no bad crashes! fingers crossed.

Thanks guys the only thing they could not help with at the hospital was removing the horseshoe they said it sideways.
I was looking at the 1361 but thought I would wait till they get the bugs out as with anything new, is it true about 210 hp?

Hey ZX12Girl

I have been watching and racing since 1998 and have seen or was told about wrecks that have happened here in the midwest ( Kansas, Oklahoma). There have been 5 of them and all but 1 walked away. The one had a heart attack about the 1000' and feel off at the 2nd turn off the bike never hit the ground it went to the very end of the track and stuck in some bushes. One guy was riding a Funnybike and fell off after the finsh line160+mph and walked away. My buddy dumped his busa at the finsh line 137mph and slid to the first turn off and got up and walked to the rescue truck. Cracked his foot and skin rash and that was it.
For the speed that we go its a very safe sport.

Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to change my answer. I just had my first dragstrip injury. On Saturday (1/4/03) I was running at Sacramento's test & tune. I had a MT slick & wheelie bars. I didn't have the right gearing. I only had the 17/46 sprockets, so I was bogging off the line. So, to get around that I was launching near redline. Well, my final pass of the day (just before lunch) didn't end too good. I don't remember a thing. I got a nasty concussion and broke my right ulna. The boys that were there told me that I pogo'd the rear. I've never heard of that before. I guess the rear slipped, the bike went slightly sideways, then the rear hooked up and launched me in to the wall.

Welcome to drag racing.

I got so lucky. It could have been a lot worse. My helmet is cracked in half. I need to get a new helmet and new leathers because they had to cut my old set off.

The radius & ulna are the two bones in your forearm. I broke the skinny one on the pinky side of your harm. Lucky for me, I just broke the tip, and it didn't move out of place. So, they expect it to heal in two weeks. So, barring any complications, I should be back at the track at the end of the month.

By the way, thanks for the kind words.

Angie , not to diminsh your injury and pain, but A broken leg is minor
compared to what can happen when things go wrong.

Wannabe you must be very young, to heal in two weeks ? Lucky for you.

No dragstrip mishaps for me, but slide the front out at the end of the 1/4
tring to make the first turn. 145mph + slide = 2 slides at the track.

I alway go to the end of the track now.
