The Miami Mile "10/10/10" October 10th

Next Miami Mile is down the road, but October will be here before you know it!

Visit www.MileMarker-1.com for details

Anyone interested in going? I spoke on the phone with the event organizer and he informed me that they hooked a big investor and they plan on taking this venue to another level.

Aside from being able to run either way (according to wind direction), they plan to have speed certificates like the Texas Mile, Run Ticket printouts like Maxton, and a lot of spectator activities.

This is what the event organizer told me yesterday on the phone... just relaying the message to my fellow gearheads who may want to visit "Magic City" Miami this winter.

The Ace Performance crew will be there with plenty of racebikes.... (including mine this time).

Never been to Mojave, but I can say that The Miami Mile has the following:

- Perfectly smooth and straight NEW surface

- The ability to run in either direction (great for tailwinds)

- 9/10th mile shutdown

- Texas Mile style Pit Area, a 1 mile long row parallel to the track. No working on top of each other packed like sardines all the way at the finishline. The Miami Mile's pits begin near the STARTING LINE as well. No dirt roads or potholes either. Fortunately, Miami's track has never fallen victim to heavy carpet bombing.... feel free to SLAM your bikes down.

- Superwide runway (designed for supersonic jets and used as a training facility by the U.S. Military)

- Plenty of amenities, you'll never be hungry or waiting for a restroom.

- ***SHIPHTEEY*** Very laid back organization focused on having FUN rather than enforcing every tiny rule with an iron fist. (so long as it's not a safety issue, of course)

- Small participant list, so everyone gets plenty of runs... along with about an hour of hotlapping towards the end. You'll get as many runs in ONE day as you would at most 2 day events.

- An abundance of pretty South Florida women running around.

- Makes for a great "family" vacation with Orlando being on the way and South Beach a short drive southeast.... and the Florida Key's just an hour south of that.

- There was a DJ at the last event, pumping out music by the pit area.

- Spectators are allowed to watch much closer to the starting line than I've seen at other events. (great for pictures and video!!!)

- Same timing equipment used at The Texas Mile.

- An ungodly amount of exotic cars, always a handful of new Lambo's, Ferrari's, Maserati's, Ford GT's, Skyline's, Porches (yes, even the Carrera GT last time!).... along with a 285mph Jet powered Funnycar that set the track record. The wide spectrum of tuner cars and muscle cars (classic and new) were also represented as if it was a tryout for Fast-n-Furious 5. Needless to say, YOU WON'T SEE 30-70 YEAR OLD RUST-BUCKET CLUNKERS THAT CONSTANTLY BLOW OIL DOWN THE TRACK!!!! Those of you who frequent different LSR events know what I'm talking about.

I'd like to go back, not sure if I can make this event yet, but I'll try. Great track, and the addition of a timing ticket would be excellent.

Tell me about it, Dean!!!

Yeah, the timing ticket and speed certificate issue has been cleared up now that there's a surplus of funds available.

I sent pictures of Maxton's tickets and Texas' speed certificate to the event organizer and he told me he was going to have them for future events.

As for the timing lights, I was informed that they will be holding two test days between now and then to make sure of absolute accuracy from here on out. I know the first few events suffered from "growing pains", but each event continues to get better and more organized. I have no doubt that The Miami Mile will soon become a premier standing mile event in the years to come.

A blend of Maxton and Texas with a little "street" mixed in for flavor.

Craig,
did you run at Mojave last Mar? what didn't like about it? (other than being colder than a witches tit)

I'd rank the track as nearly identical, slight nod to Miami (newer)

Mojave org was much better, but Miami wasn't bad.

Both cool events, and i'll go back to both.

Currently planning Loring Aug 1, Mojave in Sept, Texas Mile in Oct, then hit Miami after that

Karl, you're too kind. In all honesty, the organization of the last few Miami Miles have been less than stellar.... but it's a different kind of event, more of a "car thing" with bikes sprinkled in for flavor. The organizers are learning as they go and getting better with each event.

So you coming to Miami? Can't wait to rub elbows with the Green Monster again, take it easy on me though... I've got a bit of ring rust. =)

I didn't get to go to Mojave, but Had plenty of interaction with the coordinators on the LSR boards and they seemed like a bunch of real pricks who weren't willing to bend on any of their rules until the last minute (I.E. Tires, leathers with stretch panels, etc).

Not only that, but the guys from miami actually promote as if they want people to come to their events whereas the mojave people act as if you need them and should bow to them.

If people want to act like douchebags, I'll keep my money and drag race instead. I do intend to make it up to loring in the next couple of years though. I don't see any reason for people to travel up to mojave and run in shitty air at a venue where the coordinators have bad attitudes unless that's the closest place to go race.

That's just my opinion.

craig,
the folk who put on Mojave are not "real pricks" at all; great folk who put on the most organized, professional event of all the asphalt events in USA (i don't konw about England).
They did an outstanding job last March.

You are correct that the air is not as good as Texas or Miami, but way better than say, Bonneville, eh?

You are so close to Mojave, you are missing out on great fun.

I didn't get to go race at Mojave (it's on my to do list) but I talked to a few Bonneville car guys that did and they pretty much echo what Karl is saying. Real nice people, super well organized and very efficient event.

I still want to get down to Miami and try that too but I'm not sure I'll be making that 1600+ mile drive down anytime soon. Hopefully next year I can make it down there once. Looks like a nice facility.

That is great that they are working on the one or two little issues. I'm sure they will have it all worked out in no time. Seems like the organization is busting its butt to make Miami a premier place to race. That is good for all racers.

They are definitely moving in the right direction. Once they get the small kinks worked out it will be a top notch race for sure.

Go fast everyone!

One thing that people need to keep in mind is that LSR is not the local 1/8th mile track. Rules, and changing them or making exceptions, is a much less casual process.

That's what keeps everyone safe, imo.

I don't know anything about Mojave..... but a new LSR track is ALWAYS a great thing!

Hopefully, LSR will continue growing as a sport with more tracks popping up in different parts of the country. It would be nice to see LSR flourish into something with even a fraction of the popularity as drag racing. Places like Mojave, Miami, and Loring show us a sign that the sport is moving in the right direction.
