I broke a fiber with ebc replacement fibers. The ebc clutch was horrible, bucking and chattering off the line replaced it with oem's no problem since.

Scott, If memory serves I think Crotch Rocket got his clutch set up from Rickey Gadson...no chatter rings in that set up. Crotch Rocket would be the perfect guinea pig for a non lock up test mule to see if the chatter rings would stop the fibers from breaking.

Actually, no. No rings, Muzzy "kit" clutch pack. But, in the shootout bike, this was a lock up, of course. But except for the lockup and springs the pack was the same.

You cant compare your lockup setup to my OEM set up on our 12s!!!
Our 12s are set up different...
Our clutches are set up different...
We ride different...

Ouch!!! man KZ I am sorry to see that!!! let me know if you need anything...
and I personally have broken dozens and dozens of fibers over the last 9 years, I lost count... but I think it almost always has happened as I am doing my burnout and the tire goes from spinning to hooking hard as i comeout of the water box... I have not done it in a year or so, but i remember breaking a lot when I used a M/T tire...

thx Mike, I think we will be ok with a trip to the machine shop, but ill let you experts have a look first
I do know for sure the bearings on #4 are fukked, aswell as one set of mains that gets its oil from the crank.
the rest of them only have a few street miles(not many with a slick n bar, SW no baffle ect ect) and 15 drag passes. im allmost thinking the mottled look is just the film not worn away yet, the stuff some guys polish off anyway. (not quite broken in?)
cases are fine, rod should be able to be sized. polish the crank or is it in need of welding and grinding?

Nox, hub looks fine(better than mine anyway) thx for the emails. I dont have a spare small fiber so im going with the CR, Rickey/Doug setup of all "normal" fibers and no rings

I wouldn't reuse that rod if you have a choice. Looks like it took a lot of heat. Crank doesn't look so great either, see what your machine shop says.

i cleaned out the pickup, just bearing material, no real sign of being blocked by clutch parts. maybe the custom oil pan is to blame???

silly me...lol...
Its just one of those in the long list of things that happen to 12's...
Most of the 2000-01,12's problems revolve around oil starvation alot more than 2002-05...
Wish I could help more than that...

I guessing the modded oil pan is the problem. I would say the pick-up was uncovered for a second and it got a big ole glup of air. Sorry to see that Scott. Like everone else said, I would def have that crank looked at. Even then I probably wouldn't run it again if I had a choice.

Without a slick and a bar it's pretty hard to uncover the pickup (especially with a stock pickup). With a slick and bar it's pretty much a sure thing. Mike will have input, I'm sure.

Doug, would you suggest getting a piece added to the bottom of the current pan? I can get you lots more pics if you want to have a look, its very shallow compared to stock.
thx

No need. If it's shallower than stock and doesn't have some way of picking up at the rear, you're hosed.
This was a big topic on the 12 forum in 2001-2003. Do a search.

I will probably get flack, but the swinging pickup is a great option, or you can use the dry sump... or an accumulator... I would say protection level, pan #3, acc #2, and dry sump #1...
especially running a bar and slick... nox, has experience with the bar also, so you can get with him... as doug said this was discussed in depth early on...

I ran that set up for one weekend, it can work, but I broke a fiber that way, and Brock said it was a no no. Will be some good data collection anyway with that set up...........

That burnout thing may be the issue Mike., I see guys break baskets, doing that..., instead of driving out of the burnout, they kind just let it hook, then pull forward.......
Maybe there is more shock involved, or if they dont have the lever all the way out when the tire grabs and stops........???????
