weekend results
man o man its been a challenging couple of weeks, but i can finally relax. (untill 6am tomm)
been working on both bikes steady and we actually did get to the drag strip for some time trials today
soo many electrical problems lately its not funny
can not for the life of me figure out the old NLR 2 steps dads is the frankenstien unit made of old and new NLR stuff, but mine is the complete old setup. the 2 step works, it kills the motor on the stand and activates the SV, but it wont button shift under load even with a bunch of kill time.
i took the 2 step off of dads bike and just ran the NLR IKM-1000 with a Boost by Smith rpm activated switch(auto shifter) got that finished last night. load bike on trailer
friday night was my "good night" with my bike had the mapping down, and eveything was working(or so i thought) i tried the rev xtend, but couldnt get it to work. i found that the ign modual hadnt been on so i had been running stock timing, so i got that "working" pretty much drained the battery playing around, went to bed, forgot to charge.... yesterday morning, 2 hrs drive getting air fitting and aluminum mig wire (my chain gaurd got broken over the winter). charge bike for awhile, hook up air bottle in the tail instead of on the arm, test drive. bike runs like shit. WTF??? 2 step working, killing enging on stand, air ram works on the stand, runs horrible over 8 grand and no button shifting.(dumbass me doesnt think to log the runs) took all the timing out(had 5 degrees), no change. make several map changes, no change. get frustrated, weld up chain guard, battery on trickle charge, shower, bed 2am. this morning. up at 6 am. test drive with full charge. no change. its now or never, light bulb comes on in dads head. "you pulled the timing back to stock, but what if the box wasnt even working befor you tried the rev xtend?" I log a test run. holy shit! AFR off the charts! like 20:1 unplug ign modual from PC. test drive. my baby is back! . test button shifting. no go. rip 2 step out, rewire Schnitz PPI, set at 65ms. air shifter is back!. load on trailer. notice my straps are torn, and about to let go, toss em. how bad can it wheelie at 68 in WB anyway? get to the track at 11 am.
I want to "crew chief" for dad to get his bike dialed in, he wants to race me. so i dont get to see what his bike is doing. Im fighting wheelies and wishing i had my straps back and or 20pounds of ballast. cant keep the front end down. i leave the lock up setup agressive and just try to ride it out for the day and tune when i get my straps next time. i did get to see part of one of dads runs, it was only lifting the front tire an in or so, so we set the bars higher as he thinks its spinning the tire. turns out not nearly enough static spring pressure in the lock up (didnt have time to call dr Nox with the new setup so i guessed). i painted the bars up and parked my bike. it didnt hit the bars till 2nd and 3rd gear. no wonder he was pulling 1.9 60s. i doubled the amount of shim. much better, but not nearly enough. made one more pass where i didnt see it, and bike kinda backfired on the return lane and sputtered a bit, nothing major, runs fine, no noises. we are both tired, call it a day as we want to check/replace his plugs(forgot the spares) and i have a 68in wheelie machine that i know needs strapped
my best 60 was a 1.59, dads was in the 1.8s or 1.7s i think. he did run his first 9 sec pass at 9.74 @144, and my best of the day was a 9.56@149(on a 1.82 60)
lots of tuning and tweaking left, but not a bad day at all. i logged a few runs, but didnt even look at them untill now. my bike was running 13.9:1-14:1 going down the track with stock timing, so with proper mapping and a few degrees(new ign modual??) i think ill be pulling low 150s for mph with the new setup
this week ill check plugs, clutch packs, maps ect and try to get the bikes running better. both are ready for new oil filters and royal purple. we ran junk break in oil today.
ps Karl, are you sure dynojet checked the ign modual or just the pc?(or maybe i have it setup wrong )

Glad to see you got the motors together and back to the track. I'm sure you will be chopping those times down soon enough. I'm surpised it is wheelying that much at 68"!!
I am hoping the get to the track this week, but the weather is questionable. I'm still hand-clutching it, and I was really rusty last time out. It's been over a month since I launched the bike..

it suprised the hell out of me Shane! i forgot to check what the shock was set at, so theres more tweaking there. im running the stock shock with a 3/4 shim on the spring for extra preload, but i have no idea where the compression and rebound are set at. good news is the tire doesnt hit the tail anymore
Thx Karl, ill check to see if i can get it working properly this week some time. i must have been doing the same thing you were or had the wrong firmware or software?... . I need a visit from the dream team next time i try something like this lol.

I have some tweaking to do with my shock too. It rubbed on my street ride and hitting bumps in the pits at Maxton....so I imagine it won't get any better at the strip. It was fine first time out, but I'm 1" lower now...time to crank up the preload a bit!
