quote: Here's an eddy current tie-in for ya: Back when I used to actually design cool stuff, we used eddy current dampers to control the rate of deployment of the solar array 'wings' on satellites. A viscous damper would freeze solid in LEO (low earth orbit), so we had to use something that would not be affected by thermal extremes. The eddy current dampers we used looked a lot like the Scotts/Ohlins rotary dampers that we were discussing. If you have an extra couple or ten grand sitting around, you should try using a Mil-spec eddy current steering damper on your ZX-7! That would be shit-hot! Way cooler than those electro-mechanical variable rate things that Honda and Suzuki are using.
if i posessed even 1/100th the knowledge you have, i'd be happy. and i never thought i'd see that day where I actually lot someone..haha..
that is a crazy ass contraption.. i used to have technical discussions like that with a nuclear physicisy buddy of mine who was also an inventor.. came up with those little DC powered CPU coolers that use.. well, whatever they use to create a cooling effect on the surface.. no fans. pretty neat stuff.. i think he said it had something to do with rectification or inversion and electrons pulling latent heat or something.. he's forgotten more than i'll ever learn in a lifetime. he drew it down on a napkin but i was lost.. lol
i'll keep that in mind tho when i rob a few more banks and sell all this crack i have piled up.. i must have 2 or 3 kilos just laying around.. i should be able to get one of those dampers you speak of.. i'm all kinds of curious about those too now..
oh, and Karl, "technically" removing the electrical load from the stator should prove to free up just a tiny bit of powah. that goes back to that cynamic brake/cordless drill thing..
