spaghetti anyone?

in memory of Flight :rofl

making some progress. putting the motor together the easy way

revised oil pan baffle design

i didnt get pics, but squish worked out to
#1 0.041
#2 0.045
#3 0.046
#4 0.043
im happy with that. should be a safe setup IMO

any guesses on CR? I had the rods sized so the squish is a bit bigger(less cr), but i had a valve job(less cr), and the new EX valves dont have that little dimple in the center(more cr).... last yr was 13.5:1 im hoping its about the same

btw, if the kitchen sink isnt big enough for a case half, and theres no dishwasher available, the tub/shower works great (just be sure to wash away any evidence)

scott,
no biggie, but the difference in squish between #1 & #3 is a bit more than i am used to seeing. Is that crank worked?

as far as i know its bone stock Karl. I had the rods sized slightly different sizes to give me uniform bearing clearances, so im guessing thats where the difference in squish is coming from?

i wouldn't guess that rod sizing would give .005" difference, but its all good.
Your squish is sooo generous you have plenty of room to play with.

Good to see yr motor going back together.

i just had a local shop do the rods Karl, they might not have gotten the size correct the first time on one and did it again?? Im not running the block shim, so theres no quick and easy way to get a lil tighter. im not too worried, a bit less power for less piston to head contact is ok in my book. just need to remember the tight one, and factor that in when doing PTV. my motor has been apart waaay too long eh?

it will keep the oil from going up into the trans on a hard launch Teddy, keeping the pickup from sucking air. probly not needed for my application, but it makes me sleep better at night. i think anyone with a cut pan should have one tho.

i can trace a template and mail it to you Nox. you just need to cut it out of some aluminum(i
used scissors and a utility knife). its about .013 thick. found a roll in the auto body repair section at Canadian Tire. i sanded the edges to make sure silicone would stick really well. not running an oil pan gasket anymore

I think I still have about four or five lifetimes' supply of that stuff... Haven't used it much since I started using Dow Corning BR2 Plus and Rotella T.

well its making noise
cam timing ended up at 104.5 107, PTV was huge, and i had the DI just about inline with the bucket(pics still on camera) sort of copied Tims bend probes. I cant remember the figures (its written down on the work bench) but i think its was around .108 in and .087 ex.
the Hindle pipe is not quite as loud as my old Muzzy system, and the idle is smoother. i kinda miss the over cammed big block sound, but its a very nice sounding pipe.
the PC3usb and ign modual take up way more room where i dont have any. the extra big black connectors under the tank are in the way of the nitrous solenoid, so im going to reroute a bunch of stuff, it looks like a spiders web right now lol. im thinking the black plastic "tray" or floor by the shock can be cut out and moved lower, or remade lower with thin aluminum.
got the NLR 2 step/shift kill working tonight. its a very nice unit, i wish they were still in production and not so rare!
i have a until thursday night to have it race ready if i want to get a full wknd in at the track.... that or maybe call in sick friday. wish me luck

first test runs tonight on the umm.... "closed course"
motor is pulling strong, i logged the runs, it was a bit rich at top end, so i leaned it out 4 % and got it around 12.7:1 ish at 100% TPS and in the 7000-redline area. so its race ready tune up wise. ill make a few more tweaks at the track if need be. need to pick up a fitting for my air shifter and its GTG
