Good work from a builder

I just got the motor back from Carlquist competition engines. The owner Billy was very generous in not charging all the hours they put into it as a favor to my brother. He knew I was having problems doing it myself. It had started out as a spun bearing and I was just going to have them size the bearings.Realizing I was not doing it right,I just asked if they would assemble it for me.Marine Crank redid the 4.6 and then Carlquist put new rings and bearings, took off .005 between the cylinder and head to make sure the head gasket will last. They redegreed the cams for 105/105 after the regrinding which left me with .080 ptv on the intake. What shocked me because of going to the .036 head gasket was that the compression ratio is at 14.8.
The assembler,Sherman, whom I knew from the Freddy Klies days, knew his way around bike motors so I have the utmost confidence in his ability, plus he works for Billy and that says a lot. This was the first bike motor the shop has done and Billy said he didn't know what to charge me.He ended up calling a couple of shops just to find out how many hours it usually takes for assembly. He said 18 hours was about the going rate but they had way more time in it then that and lopped off 10 hours.I'm very happy with the cost and just knowing that it was done right by a decent group of men.I wish to give credit to Carlquist Competition Engines for being an outstanding business to deal with.

Cometic I believe they make them several thinner and I have room to spare should I need to do the cylinder again.

Good deal Pete. Glad they got you fixed up.

Like Karl said...They build some SUPER exotic engines there. Get that bad boy making noise.
