second heat cycle and all is well. starting to look more like a bike again

this is the oil pan baffle i made. with the baffling in the custom pan(similar to the Coby pan), i feel we will be fine cutting very agressive short times with no dry sump or anything fancy like that.
first pic is for Nox

actual thing. i realise now that i should have just cut holes for the oil pipes, but i guess i wasnt thinking when i was designing. it should still keep most of the oil from going vertical on the launch. anyone running quick short times should look into making one of these IMO. pull a hard wheelie and your oil goes up into the trans without it

i think it was about .013, i picked up a 14x36 in roll from canadian tire(beside the bondo). plenty to do 2 pans, but in my excited haste to hear the roar of a non baffled SW, i forgot to trace the finished product... guess i get to cut and fit another one instead of doing it the easy way for my bike. dad told me(jokingly) i should patent it, but im just hoping it will be something easy to copy for everyone out there in danger of toasting a crank

got a working 2 step it was quite a challenge though. a guy on psychobike ripped me off last yr and only sent half of the parts. i got the old style NLR 2 step cpu working with the new style NLR kill box (IKM-1000). Seb wasnt sure if they would be compatible, but i got them working together with a relay. the IKM was the only kill box that would work as it can be controlled by another box(such as a TIC-1000) to set kill time(which is how the old style 2 step works). the old cpu has a pos activation signal, but the IKM requires a neg activation signal. a relay inbetween solved the problem.
need to wire it all better as i just have a spiders web of temp wires for testing, then hook up the Boost by Smith RPM activated switch to convert button shifting into auto shifting.

forgive me for reviving something from page 2..lol.. but i'm a lil interested in that PTV tool..

how exactly does that work? i saw Tim say it bears down on the tappets.. i'm assuming you run the piston to TDC and pull the lever until it stops, then note the indicator?

not quite sure.. interesting little guy tho.

I envy you guys who can build your own stuff. I helped James buld mine (watched) and cam timing was a bit overwhelming

Actually, PTV is closest on either side of TDC (EX before and IN after), usually in the 6-10 degree range. Just ask FliteLeader - he can tell you all about it! To be sure you get it right, you have to measure PTV in two-degree increments from about 14 BTDC to 14 ATDC or until you can see the numbers converge and diverge for both IN & EX. The exact point of minimum PTV is a function of the motor's unique parts combination (cams, pistons, stroke, rods, deck height, etc.), so a single point cannot be specified for all motors.

The PTV tool uses leverage to overcome valve spring pressure and touch the valve face to the piston crown. A dial indicator is used to measure the difference between static and bottomed tappet positions to give you PTV. The alternatives to this tool are a little steel pry bar with a cam machined into the end that bears against the cam and the tappet (Yosh and Brock); a screwdriver with a rounded tip and a whole lotta upper body strength; a screwdriver and a temporary, low-rate, test-only valve spring; and clay on the piston crown. Since my tool is aluminum on steel, it won't damage anything. That, and the leverage ratio means that you can use the tool for as long as you want without getting tired so you won't have to settle for "close enough" settings.

yes, its awesome. last yr building my motor i had to use light checking springs. easily compressed by simply pushing it down on the bucket with your finger or screwdriver ect. BUT you have to then take the head off, reinstall the normal (in my case Carpenter) valve springs, put the head back on, and double check cam timing to make sure they are the same as before. with the Tim Chin PTV tool, you can push down the 65 pound seat pressure Carpenter springs with ease! no more taking the head off when you are done

cam timing took me an afternoon last yr, it was tough doing it the first time, but Doug Meyers write up, the Summit instructions in the kit (and a couple phone calls to Karl for trouble shooting) got me through it

that is absolutely brilliant.

a Tim idea/design too?

guess it could be modded to lock down to free a hand up as well..

i see how it all works now.

dial indicator number(bottomed out) - lift = PTV?

I usually zero the indicator on the tappet at the crank position where I'm measuring PTV. The amount the tool moves the tappet is PTV.

ok, wiring is all done and tested except the nitrous, but that can wait a month or so. we have a working 2 step, and the air shifter can be either triggered by the horn button or by the rpm activated switch. should be a joke to run, super easy and consistant stage, hold the clutch in, hold it WOT, snap clutch out, let the lock up do its thing, and hold on for the ride as it auto shifts. the nitrous will be all automatic too.
got the LM-1 and LMA-2 connected and was playing with mapping on the stand, it was waaay rich in the 0 and 2 % columns. (genaric Muzzy SW map) i have it idling and revving much smoother, but had to take a break as the bike was getting hot and my head is pounding(note to self wear ear plugs around an open SW). its still needs to be leaned out a bit as its around 12.2:1, but thats much better than the 10s and 11s it had initially.
going to log a burnout tomorrow, make a couple tweaks, then give it a logged shakedown run on the "closed course" and further tweak mapping. I am very happy with progress, slow, but good

brazed a steel nut on for a bung (M18x1.5) the O2 sensor hides nicely between the cases and the frame
