seems like we were running it lean and it holed a piston started eating the head.

Andy owns Metric MC in Houston, does awesome head work, has a FactoryPro dyno, builds motors like a surgeon.

He tells it like he sees it, no BS whatever.

Where are the brass seats? Would have thought they would be sort of welded in. Karl, can that head be saved?

The 208 mph motor holed a piston? Did you have the logger going?

Dane,
That head already had OS bronze seats, so repairing the seats in #2 was HIGHLY problematic, the new seats had to be machined specifically for ea valve, and they damn near touch.

The head is done, and i will fire it up on the current build in a couple weeks. :crossed fingers
If it doesn't fail on dyno, i will pull it and put it on the bench in case Doug & I need to build another midnight motor.

Shane,
Yup, the 208 motor holed a piston on Doug's 2nd pass

I had the logger going but AF trace was flaky on Sat; was running leaner than i liked on Fri 1(13:1), but i didn't look at any logs till Mon

Naughty injector???

Can't complain too much, I'd say it was a good sacrifice to the god of speed for that 208 and heavy change.
I will let you know this evening whats up with my bike. Cam chain and adjustable sprocket bolts were all "A" ok. I think maybe jumped a few teeth........but will look into it further.

Gary,
could be a naughty injector, but since #3 cyl didn't look too far behind, it seems to be a more general issue.

The motor was tuned in a 90 degree dyno room, and Sat was 70's??

You pulling the head tonight??

thats amazing.. all of it.. but why mill with a 4 flute endmill?

thats just astounding what can happen inside a motor under the extremes with just a fuel variation.. sure it wasn't that little pulsation problem (even tho you fixed it..) rearing it's head under load or something?

thats just nuts man. andy is a monster tho.. thats amazing.

last night...

following in the tradition and methodology of 2 previous blind taste testing sessions with vodka, our drunken lil Latin group of 5 "experts" did Rum last night. I'm the token gringo.

process is simple:

1. Ladies serve up unmarked glasses of Rum & Colombian, Cuban, Nicaraguan snacks,

2. guys drink and fill out the rating sheets

3. repeat till complete

4. ladies tally up the results, bring more chicharron, empanadas, etc

5. guys sit around the table & polish off the bottle of the winner

6. Ladies clean up

I only do this in the name of science

oh my fukken head

Sounds like you'd love it down here in Miami.

Hey Mike,

coño, estas cien porciento correcto!,

I LOVE Miami!.
1973-4 I peddled freight for Alterman Transport out of Opa Locka, then moved away
1978 moved to Coconut Grove worked in Coral Gables, moved away in 1981
1983 moved to Coral Reef area, worked in the Gables, moved to Ecuador in 86
1992 moved back to Coral Reef, but got transferred to venezuela in 1997

When I step outa the Miami airport, smell that soft humid breeze, hear the palms rattling, it feels like home to me.

light up a cig, sip a cortadito, ahhhhh....

And you are right again, the "beaches" are beautiful

THAT's it!

But as much as i love masas de puerco con moros, picadillo, platano frito, etc, i could never really fit into the Cuban scene; them big cigars give me a head ache and dominoes confuse me.
