thx guys
I did get the cam cap from Jack, and theres enough buckets between the 2 heads to do one, so its GTG. going to finish lapping the valves tonight. 5 to go .
my 3 spare 1287 pistons are in this motor. i got the forth thru Schnitz. cheaper than directly from JE. check with WTN on psychobike, he might have some

and if you knead a cam cap just let me know. or a few buckets

thats a generous offer, but the head & cam cap are line bored as a unit.

i probably wouldn't "mix & match"
that makes scents on the cam cap. i'll have to make sure i don't mix mine up...thanks

If Karl can revive the pictures, I can scan the shape of the finger and scrape together the rest of the specs.

yep, i have the pix, buried somewheere in photobucket

the only thing i'd do different next time is make the handles out of steel, cause in my heavy hands the aluminum bends.

BTW I built 2 of them so i wouldn't have to fool around changing the set up between exh and int.

I have the solution to avoiding the setup change between IN & EX: Make a tappet depressor finger that is symmetrical about a plane that passes through the pivot hole axis. That way, one side is used on IN and the other is used on EX. Also, using a solid lever arm (e.g., McM #86895K481) instead of angle should eliminate the bending issues, as well.

i have both, and the more expensive one (the black one pictured) is worth the extra bux.

cutting the ends off the cam cap makes things easier

turning the cam ends down to .750 also makes things easier.

Tim made some probes for the DI which allows you to get on the bucket w/o modding the cap or turning down the cam ends. That's the finesse way to do it. I'm basically a "hammer-mechanic"

Notice that Karl has his contraptions set up differently. On the intake side, the finger is mounted inside the angle of the lever arm. On the exhaust side, the finger is mounted on the outside of the lever arm. If you use the double-ended finger design (where's a GB when you need one?), you'd have to mount it on the outside of the lever arm so it would be allowed to rotate into position.

It bears on the tappets to open the valves and determine PTV, along with the dial indicator. In the pics, only the exhaust side is set up for use.
