It's totally KILLING me here not to start with the wise-cracks, but......
first you need to lower the bike to get any good times out of it. You're options are plenty, but at a minimum, you need to buy a "strap" to compress the front forks and lower the CG. It'll launch much better. SchnitzRacing has them. (around $23)
Lowering the back helps too, Muzzy's and Spencercycle sell 3 hole dogbones for the rear shock, or you can get ADJUSTABLE ones from Kennedy machine, or I think Doug at Spencer cycle has those too. ($40 / $100, roughly)
you'd benefit a lot, and save your clutches by having a -1T front sprocket. ($25)
DO NOT, and we'll all tell you this and it can't be said enough, DO NOT make multiple consecutive passes down the strip without letting the clutches cool down first. This can be an expensive lesson! The steel plates can warp easily from repeated drag racing, clutch slipping starts. Either wait 15-35.5 minutes between runs, or do things to help it cool. ie. Tip bike to right, when running, with clutch lever in to get more oil tipped over into the clutch pack. (just 5-10 seconds should be enough,...you don't want to starve the oil pump either)
Some folks squirt oil on the clutch pack after a run to help them cool down.
eventually you'll want a pipe so that you can take it to redline and still have good power. Stocker falls off power quite a bit before redline so you'd have to short shift a stock piped bike to get the best run.
Consider running 10 2.0mm steel clutch plates and 11 fibers instead of the 11/12 stock setup. (were 2002's still that way???) Thicker steels don't warp as easily, and you run one less steel plate and one less fiber plate to keep the proper stack height.
Practice, practice, practice.
Open a revolving account at either SchnitzRacing, or RonAyers for clutch packs.

I have a 02' 12r Muzzy full Ti System, Muzzy rear links [middle hole] front lowered at forks.. Just ordered a 17t ZX-11d sprocket and a yella box.. A Hans buckle guard..... Ran a 6.5 at our local 1/8 mile track last nite..... Not good hence the new mods coming......... might also take it to the top hole on Muzzy links...

bottom hole yo! bottem hole.
6.5's aren't that bad though considering you aren't geared nor slammed to the ground in back.

Alright BA, that solves mystery for me!!!!
I was waiting 34.9 minutes between passes and still toasting the steels. Next time, I'm gonna hang tight for the full 35.5. You da man!!!!

10 2.0mm steel clutch plates and 11 fibers . Does the clutch lever feel good with this set up?

Someone went grave digging 8 years back...lol
you will need 2 readjust the lever play...it depends on what you want from ur 12, its setup, motor, your style of riding, how many passes you want from the clutch...

Im glad kaw man started this thread! I just got a 2003 ZX-12R and it will be strictly for drag racing. I have raced a bar bike for about 20 years, now its time to learn a no bar bike... The question I have is........ The bike I got has a line and a ball valve which runs to the top of the clutch housing, which im assuming is for cooling the clutch plates. When do I open this valve, after the run. I wouldnt think it would be open during due to, to much oil on the plates. Is that correct?

Also..... What kind of launch RPMs should I launch at? It is basically stock, power commander, full hindle exhaust, I ordered swingarm extensions for it (3"-9"), and will be strapping the front. Any kind of basics would be great to hear! Thanks

we need a pic of this valve, I dont have an oil line going to my clutch cover, and none of the other 12s ive ever seen have
try 5500 rpm, but it will depend on your driving style more than anything
gear it way down also, try 17 50.
get an air shifter asap unless you can footshift really really fast...

This is the setup I was talking about, it is tapped into the bottom of the engine cases then up and into the top of the clutch housing. Im sure this was done by the previous owner.
