2006 Kawasaki 636R Air Fuel Ratio and HP

A freind of mine has this bike and it is making about 117 HP with a LeoVince but the A/F is running about 14.5 to 16.5 A/F! I added about 20% more fuel and got into the 13.5 A/F and down to 114 HP!

Where should the A/F be on these? This Lean? What is good HP SAE on a Conservative Dyno!

you know the saying, "they allways work the best before they break"... i think in this case its before it melts.... i wouldnt think that they should be any leaner then normal, but i could be wrong...

I am in your Camp! Somehow I cannot imagine the system designed to run LEANER than the Cars do! the Monitor only goes to 18 to 1 and it is half way through the run before I see the Numbers moving! My personal feeling is that he has the Wrong Map (Maybe the 2007 map for the 2006) I will let you know!

Finally spoke to the Tech person at Leo Vince and I feel better now! He feels and is right that there is AIR in the readings! Either caused by a short tube or bad filters and Reeds! The Filters and Reeds have never been changed and the Tube is only 1.6 inches long now! Needs to be 2.5 to 3.0 feet long! He said that even the cars are only at 14.7!

Thanks KZ

Maybe that's why the guys at Factory Pro tune to best hp and not to an AFR. I've seen most DJ dyno operators clamp the air injection tubes during a tuning session to prevent excess air in the exhaust.

BTW, most SAE papers on AFR show max power at about 12.6:1, at the expense of fuel economy.

Thanks Guys, one thing for sure is we ALL Know it is not 14 anything!

I also like 12.8 on the Dyno because in the real world the extra strength needed to pull yopu and air resistance makes it run leaner yet!

I'm not sure how accurate the Bazzaz Z-AFM device is, but 12.8:1 was visibly slower than 12.4:1 on the race track. It's hard to argue with lap times and trap speeds, even if you have dyno data.

No Effectively Leaner! The Harder the engine works, the More fuel it uses and needs. If you have 12.8 under no load and put a load on it like the rear brake the A/F goes UP! To accelerate a load you need more fuel to WASTE hence the use of Accelerator Pumps and the fuel I put into the Zero Throttle Position of the map so that when I let off to shift gears I get some extra fuel to accelerate.

This is what works for me from what I have seen! Also watching the car racing you see huge flames of over rich into the corners so that they can get out of the corners with that "Extra" Fuel!

Hence the 12.4 will accelerate better than the same bike with 12.8 to a certain point where the accel decreases and the REAL HP is needed to continue it is too rich! Everything is a Compromise

Agree about the fuel requirements vs. load. I think I misunderstood the point you were trying to make, thinking you were extrapolating from 14:1 to 12.8:1 to something richer.
