quote: I haven't written anything that can do the "chess moves" yet, but that would be really cool.
The calculator that I wrote takes target lash, measured lash and current shim sizes and calculates which shims are required to meet the target lash. It's a good sanity check at 03:15 in the morning when you can't quite figure out the zen of how a shim's thickness influences lash numbers.
I had the chess move program, until my hard drive died.
I believe It came from the R1-forum back in the day.
If I can come up with another copy, I'll share.
In the last year or so this board is really started sharing infomation, the good stuff.
Big thanks to Karl, johnny, tcchin, y2k and many others.

oil tubes are bigger.
Kawi changed the cases ever year. They saw something to retool like that.
and like Nox said, you don't see the motor issues on 2002 up.

I don't know what else changed, but you could probably make them fit.
I didn't try.

On the bench, what do you use to turn the cam once it is mounted on the head??
I use a plastic screwdriver type tool and use the teeth. It doesnt mar the gears or casting.

i started checking clearances on the intake, and used a plastic screwdriver handle and a rubber mallet to turn the cam around. i dremmeled a little notch in the handle to fit on the teeth of the sprocket. works great
when i check out the exhaust tomorrow ill just use the IN cam as ill be running 2... just incase of the highly unlikely possibality of IN and EX cams using diff base circles....
then ill check dads head. hopefully between the 2 heads we will be able to just swap a bunch around without having to buy very many new ones
speaking of diff base circles, is there a neg side effect to switching to a smaller base circle? i have been told it allows higher lift without requiring larger buckets...you just need thicker shims to make it work right?
