Almost ready for the TX Mile...

Only a could of things left, like safety wiring, and changing the Oil... Oh and cleaning it!!! for sure...

Well I took the bike to the dyno yesterday, and thanks to the Awesome!!! tuning skills of our very own DWB, I have this story to tell. If i throw out a # yea it would be like cool! but I want to really dig deep!

It started about this time last year when I dropped my stock motor ZX12R off at Pat's shop and he did some tuning over a week that I left my bike with him... we ended up with 153HP... i was bummed... this was a stock motor with a Pipe and PC, a few other little goodies on it... I have seen mid 160's on other dyno's. But I kept an open mind and raced the bike during the year running well! and going some rounds...

We end of the racing season and i decide to do the TX Mile... But this time I have my 1361 sitting on the bench with a spun bearing from a couple of years ago. I decide, Ok I am going to put my good spaz head with all the bells on it and I will take the 1270 kit and put it in along with the head. So that being done I take the bike back to DWB's dyno and He works his magic! with this setup, On motor it ran about 161HP... and with the spray we ran 180HP.... and again I was worried about the #'s a little but, I saw gaines and to me that was the most important thing! and with this setup I ran 196mph at the TX Mile...
So now we come to yesterday!!!
We toss the bike up on the dyno and warm it up and not changing a thing we do 2 pulls and run 163-162HP same exact place we were we left off last year. I brought over a can of Sunoco 116 MaximaL fuel... so we run most of the 93 out and toss in the 116... and warm it up and make a couple of pulls tuning it in, since it was way rich!!!
Here is the all motor pull we came up with...

yep all motor and now this is looking better...
Then I let DWB do his thing and set the bike up for Spray... and folks we both about fell off the dyno!!! Freaking Incredable!!!!
here is what follows...

Now I feel very good about this, I mean Holy Crap!!! This is great!!!!!! so we do a little work on the map and adjust the ignition a little and end up where we both feel a little more comfortable for the TX Mile... So as we are looking now it looks very exciting for the Mile...

Nah, the biggest problem will be keeping the head gasket from blowing on that 100 shot. Problem with big bore engines is that they have much less gasket material between cylinders which makes them much more prone to "popping", especially with the extra heat transfer on the now thinner walls.

I've seen this much nitrous sprayed safely on the dyno where duration is very very short... but that's just with 4th gear pulls ON THE DYNO. In the mile, you've got to be on the button for a long time and heat builds up like a mofo.

Hope it stays together, MadMike.

Good Luck and God Speed!

I am going to bring an extra Head gasket... Just to be safe... but i hope we dont need to change one out... either way we should be ready to go... it will be about a 60 shot+ ram air... I had bigger jets, but we both felt safe with the duty cycle and the A/F using the 116 octaine... so all that being said I am ready as hell to race on Saturday!!!
and thanks for the well wishes! you guys will be the first to know on saturday night !!! for sure hopefully good news...

Mike....., so the compression with the pump gas was cuttting you 10 hp on motor only......,

guess 13.5 is too much for pump gas?

Not sure why it was that way? but on the race gas it was way fat... so it allowed us to lean it out and that bumped up 10HP... not sure exactly why...

i sure don't think 13.5 is too much for pump gas for 1/4 mile.

I was running 90 octane Nutec spec5 with 14:1+ with no problems at 1/4 mile.

however at the mile in 2003 i lost a HG with that set up.

The map was off more than anything . When we made the first pulls on the motor , I did'nt change the map until after the first pull on the 116 because I wanted to see how the new gas effected the AF . It made it a bit richer. Even without switching fuels we probably would have gained 8 just in mapping/ign. changes.

The 116 just made me feel better about the larger dry shot.

Also Phantom makes a good point about spraying on the dyno vs. spraying in the "real world" . But if Mike blows a head gasket it won't be the worst motor failure he's had in texas

Good Luck Fellas , bring home the BIG numbers.
