measuring crank bearings?

I was testing out my new digital mic and ran into something i wasnt expecting...
do the bearings get progressively thinner as you get closer to the end of the curve? as in thickest in the middle?
i got consistant results measuring two NEW bearing inserts. each time the "edge" was thinner(under spec) and the middle was right on the min spec.
temp in the shop is about 12C (53F)

Karl, Tim, Jim? anyone?
thx!

We set my bottom end up for around 1.5 to 2 thou, cant remember what.....

but the bearings were pretty much what the book said they would be.........

I got lucky, browns on the rods, and browns on the crank........

is there anyway to get oversized bearings? my uncle suggested that(drag car guy) for the bad crank in dads bike. one rod journal is a bit small... we have a brand new crank, but just curious....

you may be able to use a small rod marked (none) and make adjustment.
small crank (none) and small rod (none) = black bearings
blue would be oversize.
Let us know how it works out.

As Karl stated they do taper. This is to account for rod "pinch" at high rpm and in some cases to meter oil flow thru the journal, and it also helps with slight rod cap misalignment issues and reduces oil scraping from the journal.

You can resize the rods to make the bearings slightly tighter. But this has limitations unless you want to get into custom trimming and fitting shells. That takes some skill and a special lapping block. Not recomended.

thx Jim. that last stuff is way too complicated for me. we are going to run the new crank, and let the other one sit on the shelf till it gets sent away to become a stroker....
