How much xtra compression with thin gasket on a 12
as the title implies, how much extra compression can you get with the thin head gasket?

I did some quick math
83mm piston displacing 300cc,
12.2 CR with .023 head gasket,
calculated chamber volume (total) is 26.78cc
switching to a .018 gasket will reduce chamber volume by .687cc
new CR should be about 12.5:1

The .023 number (compressed thickness) is just what I remembered it being. I have been known to remember things incorrectly in the past.

IIRC taking out the block shim makes a stock motor 12.8 to 1 or so.... you might need cam sprockets tho
you could probly get over 13 to 1 with stock parts if you did it right...

2, why would I need sprockets?

Removing the shim puts the cams that much closer to the crank. Since the length of the driving side of the cam chain hasn't changed, it causes the cams to be slightly retarded.

Nox
Depending on which cyl clock i'm using, i'll run .010" or .005" or no base gasket at all to get the quench where i want it.
I don't use any sealant and don't have leaks around the base of the cyl block.
your results may vary
