ZX-14 on a different kinda track

I'm not considering replacing our current race bike with a 14 (despite its current state), but this vid is entertaining to watch. Enjoy.

nice!

i like how the vid switches from front to back of the chase bike; that 14 sure hauls ass on what seems to be a tight? lil track.

Tim,
have you buffed out the "scratches" on yr 1000 yet??

The track is the notoriously tight Streets of Willow in Rosamond, CA.

I'm disassembling the bike in situ (unloading it would be like pushing a half-full waterbed up a flight of stairs) and I plan on inspecting the motor for damage tomorrow. If the motor's okay, then we'll start ordering everything else. It'll be like new when I'm done - because most of it will be.

If you're intereseted in selling it as is, let me know. I'm starting to look for a crasher to turn into a racebike to see what the 14 can do when prepped properly.

My race bike is a GSX-R1000, not a ZX-14. Besides, I'm pretty sure this bike exceeds the normal definition of a "crasher". New frame, new fork tubes, new subframe, new swingarm, new triples, new rearsets, plus bent shift forks, a slightly warped crankshaft and a spun bearing from running on its side.

you oughta post a pic of yr bike, pretty damn spectacular.

Strange about the bearing going out; i thought that AMA used tethered kill switches???

Jeez-ess
I remember a brand-new K7 on it's first race weekend, ending up kinda the same way. The guy lost it in T8 @Willow.
Sounds quite deep, and not play-able.
Racing's uh, FUN, ain't it?

Karl - There are no tethers, but there are tipover sensors. Sometimes, they take a few seconds to kick in, which is a lot at 11k rpm, and I'm not sure how well they can resolve the gravity vector when the chassis is cartwheeling across the desert at 140. Also, it might have been rapid decel from 11k to 0 rpm that loaded the bearing up, like when the rear wheel pogoed off the tarmac. The lower center bearing was worn to the point that copper was showing, but not completely spun.

Advanced - A lot of new 1000's have met their demise at that track. I remember Jacob West getting off a couple times when his '05 was new. I think his frame tore apart at the airbox inlets, too.
