clutch steels

What is everybodies opinion on sandblasting the steels when they start to blue and aren't warped?

I guess I'm just a little nervous of the blast medium imbedding into the metal and not coming out until its installed and under load.

I would deffinetly clean the plates with brake cleaner and wipe the plates until A white cloth comes away without any dark color on it.....I don't think glass beading will imbed into the steels......Or just buy some new ones...As long as mine aren't warpped,I just bead blast , clean and re install.....JMO.....

Pete, I wouldnt do it...The ZX12 clutch plates get real hot and definately get out of shape...You know whats going to happen when you put new frictions with the old steels!!!

What clutch set up are you using???...11 frictions and 10 2.0 steels???

We just use 800 grade wet and dry paper and clean with brake cleaner spray. Cost effective and works a treat. Been doing it for years with no ill effects.

Sand blast works. just towel wash with soap and water , blow dry with compressed air.
final rinse with brake cleaner. Same wash procedure with sand paper.
Towel washing may not be needed but it's good insurance.

as long as they are flat, it does not matter........

blue, purple, red, green, put em back in............., after a good wipedown..........

the color is from heat, not anything on them........, if you scuff them, you will wear out the fibers faster.........

I am still testing on the same fibers that came on my 2002 model, have only changed to all full size fibers, and only have broken one, and that was last week. took the cushions out for consistency........., stock steels..........., stock fibers........

if you are eating clutches, you are holding the lever too long...........

save the money on clutches , and buy a lock up, and set it up right..........

it is not as hard as some make it out to be............

Thanx nox,I'm not going thru clutches as I usually just dump the clutch.Once I figure out my crank repair is,I'ld like to get a lock up.My brain doesn't work as well anymore so the lock up sound like the route to go.If they ever set up a map thread, maybe they can also get one for lock up settings for wt/hp.

that will never work.

there are too many variables..., operating temp, weight, hp, launch rpm, gearing, how each person releases the lever..........

there you can get it in the ball park, but knocking it over the fence takes a lot of fine tuning.......

I love the guys that cant figure out why it wont work, when they get the clutch from MTC, .......

and they go........, well they said it was set up for this bike and wb, and 175 lb rider, why wont it work..............LOL
