New Lockup (NOX`s)

Just got back from the track after installing the lockup I bought from NOX.....sweeeeet...Popped the lever out about 7000 rpm's,came out of the hole sweet, squated on the suspension, front wheel came up about 3 to 4 " at about 70' mark,it came back down smooth...Then it locked up and motored the rest of the way...Clutch lever pull is with one finger...Real nice...
1.47 60'
6.17 1/8 @117 mph
9.57 1/4 @143 mph,Muzzy Map from dyna jet, P/C...No advancer....
Stock motor, needs to be mapped, extended arm ,and Muzzy airshifter,Shinko ultra size 200..
Big Thanks To NOX For help at the track....
Paul....

Hey Mike,
175 and about 10" over.....I was testing and found that I will need more clutch spring pressure and tighten up my suspension a little,(too much squat),...I will pick up some more 60' after some adjustments...Lights were .028/ .015/ &. 036...Nice not having to worry about wheelies or tire spin...

Paul, I am so glad my set up got you in the ball park. That is about what I average on the tree with that set up all day. When you get it all better, it will fly. It would be even closer but I am probably running a little more torque and hp than you. EVERYONE's set up is always different.........

Try the things I told you, and you will start hauling the mail soon........., and forget about using up clutches anymore........, the one you have in the bike will last you a couple of seasons now...........

and 9.70's to .80's in the 1/4 @138 mph)
What a change...Thats just the intial setup, bolted on from you and to the track...Now I can Make some small adjustments for me and go from there...

Nox and Stuart Racing,
Are there changes in the parts other than the puller or is it the NOX setup that's working?
Can you share anything about the setup?

There are SOME changes(WINK)...NOX's setup is working like a champ, and he spent to much time and money, plus a few probike people that helped HIM...I have to put a towel over the lockup when the cover is off to keep prying eye's from getting a glimpse of this thing,(it's a work of art)...You can ask NOX if you want..You wouldn't beleive it could work if you saw/felt it.......SORRY..

Actually, my father in law works for my hot wings and BBQ.

Craig Treble taught me to tune a lock up......, plus I have worked on his pro stock a small (very small) amount. I went to Memphis one night to a TNT with him, and took TONS of mental notes when I was taking the clutch in and out between passes.........

The rod is just bullet proof. Anyone who has a muzzy lock up, can take the current rod they have, to a good machinist, and have him copy it, but build it the way it is supposed to be without the hole in the outer end (thats why they break) We used tool steel. The MTC piece resembles what we built. We have made other modifications to the actual working part of the clutch.......

My father in law has done the same things to the Pro Stock car clutches. Mostly the time tuning and testing. When you have a lock up, you will finally get to the point, that every pass, you will gain .01 or .02 in 60 ft......., you keep going until it gets too wild, or slips...........

With a slick and bars, I did 1.32 all day. I have done 1.35 with 68 inch and a mcr, but it was a little violent to a marginal track. 1.38 shorts all day with that set up would hook in a carwash..........

Buddy will tell you , he has seen it run, it launches smooooooooth.

I cant wait to start playing with my multistage........

If you are going to use a lock up, you have to be A N A L. Like Monk on the tv show anal. If you are, you will se grand results. If not, you will wonder why it aint working..........

Also, a buddy running the video camera is worth tons......, not for the visual, as much as listening to the rpm..........

Paul is about to start really flying, and it will do it pass after pass..............

I have told people at my local track, DO.........this......., you have too much of this, or that........

They tell me I dont know what I am talking about, their bike needs it, their mechanic told them it needs it, what ever........

then I out short track them, even they have more hp, but they are hooking , and not spinning........

and along the way, they are frying clutches..........

USER ERROR............lol

If you think you have enough pressure or weight............., you have too much........, trust me.

Last August, in LA, at the King of the track, I ran 9.24, in 104 degree heat, and 4500 DA air.

175 suited.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmt8K_nZoKw

This was an outlaw event I ran in Oklahoma at some way out rat track. I have not been back, but some guy caught me on video. The bike was spinning a little, but the lockup actually keeps it soft the way I have it set..........This track was horrible. (Dont rag me on the tree, it was some weird thing with their scoreboards........., also, I usually run at least 122 to 124 mph in the 1/8. thats how much I was spinning on the top end.

The next night, at my home track, with the exact same set up, it ran 5.82 in the 1/8.

Ran it again last night...I added .020 shim to springs...Picked up the 60' to 1.45...On pump gas, without a real good map in P/C......
Damn this setup is consistant as hell...Really doesn't matter about track condition at all....Goes through the clutch for the first 60 to 70'...Then is hooks up and takes off...I have to be right on with my shifts with this gearing,if I'm late on any gear,I don't make it without stretching fifth to the rev.limiter or haveing to shift to 6th gear...]
see ya,

Look forward to hearing from you tomorrow night.........

Yup ,everything is lookin good....I ran into people like that too...About helping them with their lockup tunes....Some even put heavy duty springs in also...Get to the end of the track and can't pull in the lever........(YIKES).....
I have a friend that's gonna bring his laptop and load this map I have....The last P/C I was runnig killer MPH(1/8 & 1/4)....Gonna try the old map and see what happens....
9.58@143 mph 1.46 60'...I could try leaving at 7500 or 8000...Don't really want to yank her that hard off the line though....
I'm even riding her around town without any problems....Even works killer on the street with that setup.....Just leave around 3000 rpm's....

I always left at 7000, but I am making a little more power than you with the u4, stacks, timing, brock pipe, etc......

Try 7500 or 8, it wont hurt anything......., worst it will do is slip a hair, may be just what you need to get a nice 1.42 or so............

You gotta remember it aint like a normal clutch, going up on rpm wont make it flip over........

Let me know how that works..........

How were the reaction times you last outing?

Nox,
Yes indeed,
thanks a million for sharing your thoughts. My wife was shocked that i spent so long on the phone. I never spend more than a few min, but when nox is spillin' his guts with lockup setup tips, man o man, i'm gonna get all the help i can.

The weather looks iffy for tonight at HRP, but i'm hoping to try a few of yr trix!

Thanks a million!

Dang. Maybe I should look at putting a lockup on my ZRX. I am having one hell of a time figuring out how to get this thing to 60 in the low 1.4's. I know it can be done but I must be a slow learner.

The best thing about a lock up, is you can make it hook up, even on a marginal track.

I will slip the rear tire maybe a half dozen times ALL season on the starting line, and half those times, were just because I did a weak burnout............

Everyone's lock up setting will be different, but in Pauls case, he was pretty similar to me, weight, lower in hp, but it got him in the ball park, and now he is tuning it and gaining........

I just hope what I told Karl will get him close and let that big motor eat, and let TFA roll hard!!!!!!!!!

I am taking mine out for the first time this year, next weekend, still gotta drop 5 lbs, ate only tuna for the last two days and dropped two pounds.........., Memorial day will be tough......

Mike, send me an email, wilhiteracing@conwaycorp.net

Got a pic of the bike sitting WAY low......., Koenig pan, lowered shock, lowered forks.........
