2002 zx12 go boom?
Anyone beside bossman blow a 2002 plus?
It's starting again, 2 more 2000s down with
crank problems.
What do we see on the site "how do i put a 2001 motor in my 2000".
I don't hear about 2002 up with these problems.
I only know of 2 2002+ and both were modded big.
Do i need a 2002+ bottom or a busa.

blown 2003 zx12r
my 03 let go in oct., the rod and piston came through the block, that #3 is a manufacturer
design flaw. i heard the way they got the oiling system design(oil being pumped to the # 1,
#2, and #4 pistons starving the #3 piston)
everyone that i heard of blowing up was a result of the oil pump going bad killing the #3,
i hope kawasaki didn't make that mistake on the 14. if i knew the 12 was subjected to
failure because of a design flaw, i would've never brought lt.
78kz900(sold)
79kz1000(sold)
84gpz900(being rebuilt)
00zx12r(wrecked by a buddy)
03zx12r(blown,1394 cummn)
06zx14(black, still waiting)
01cbr600f4i(sister's bike)
i'm riding, she's learning

I have seen alot 2000s die from #3 rod and a couple center mains.
I know they changed the cases in 2001,
and changed the crank and rods in 2002.
(good time to fix any oil problems, huh)
I have not seen any stock 2002 blow, and only a couple modded.
I know the 2000 have been out longer but they have been
blowing since 2000. anyone remember the 2000 mile breakin recommedation in 2000?
What is the recommended breakin miles on the new 10r or 14r?
I just don't see the 2002's blowing or burning clutches like the 00 and 01's.
I just wanted to see if what i'm seeing is normal.
I'm tring to find out if i need 02 cases, 02 crank, or the 02 whole engine.
If the 02's are going out like the 00s then i will try a different bike.
The 00 are stock, mild to wild built by different builders.
Three came from three different BIG NAME builders same #3 failure.
Noboby runs low oil.

any of you blown motor guys who do 1/4 mi ever notice yr oil lite coming on just a bit on the big end? I did, so i started logging oil pressure....
I went to an aftermarket modded pan, and the launch dip was down to 10si or less, but at least the big end was cured.
Went to a Koenig pan and the launch was 100% cured, a much smaller dip on the big end.
Since my results may be different than yours, i am not naming the aftermarket pan,,,
just food for thought...

My 2000 model had a #3 connecting rod bolt back out and fall into the oil pan. Needless to say on its journey out it tore up the crank a little bit.
However, I did have at least 2000 passes on it, all stock. If not for that, it would still be running strong today. Gonna get it fixed one day. For now, I'm racing my new motor I bought from five0, it's pretty strong too.

I have a 2002, I run Royal Purple, change it often, my bike is only race driven, and has hundreds of passes on it..........., still running strong, made the third final in a row today, finally won out, and got contingency money to boot.

When you have big end problems are you breaking hard to make the first turn?

nope, just dumping the gas right after the traps, not breaking hard. I always go to the last turnoff.
