do clutch springs "go bad"?????

I've had 6 Muzzy springs in my clutch for about 300 passes, and since I can't seem to stop myself from hot lapping, these poor springs have been super heated MANY times.

Anyone care to comment on how long the springs should last?

spring testers...

Yes...they CAN get weak...
You should be ably to take them to a "good automotive machine shop" and get them tested...
The best spring testers is VERY expensive (900 bucks) but places like Moroso, Summit, Jegs...also sell cheaper more portable versions that are used in your bench vise...
This one is obviously the 1000lb version...EEEK...they also make 100lb and 300lb testers which are plenty for our clutch AND valve springs...

Thx KC,
At $4 each, $24 for a set of 6, I just ordered 6 new ones from Muzzy. I like the idea of testing them but I have (slightly) more money than time right now.

I also ordered a new clutch hub (Muzzy kit version). I'm gonna take it to a machine shop and take .025 off the face which hits the hat when the clutch bottoms out. See what happens. I know that you (KC) and some others use different steels to add to stack height and get more wear out of the fibers, but I didn't have good luck doing it. It'll be a few weeks before this "test" comes together, and I'll keep you posted.

new clutch springs vs old springs

This weekend I got 6 new springs from Muzzy, and took out my 6 old Muzzy ones for replacing.

The new ones are .180-.200 longer than the old ones... Hmmmmm, when springs get shorter maybe they are losing strength????
