First 1/4 Mile Times

Hello all. I went to the track today, weather was not bad, in the 50's! Anyway this was my first time doing a real 1/4 mile run. Here are my stats. My bike is a 10R all stock with stock wheelbase.

60FT: 2.06
330FT: 5.18
1/8: 7.51 @ 108.49
1/4: 11.18 @ 131.62

How do I launch this bike? I have been holding it at 6,000rpm then slipping the clutch out when I launch. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks!

Bragg

bragg,
how much do you weigh??? 220+???

where are you located? yr mph seems low (131mph)

If you are not toooooo heavy, i think i'd i'd start practicing launching at a bit lower rpm and try to get to WOT faster. If you are a BIG boy, that's a different matter.

I weigh 195lbs! I'm in Fayetteville, NC. That was the first time I have ever done a 1/4 mile on a bike! I just bought some Lowering links, and a front strap, so this weekend I will be taking her back down the track, I'm hoping to get her into the 10.7 or 10.5 range this weekend with her lower. Every time I went WOT i would lift the front end and I would let off the throttle because i didnt' want to loop her. I want to get into the 9's by this summer. I think I will have to gear her and get a bolt on exhaust (Muzzy) then I think I can hit the 9's!!!! Any advice would be great! Thanks to all those that responded

nuttin wrong with that....you will get faster each and every time you go to the track.

id practice launching at different rpms....start low and work your way up in 2 or 300 rpm intervals...keep an eye on your short times to see where your comfort zone lies.

you can tweak your clutch skills after you get more comfortable on the bike and realize you arent going to flip it over onto its back

Lean you body weight forward (feet back; see norman video above) ) over tank during first gear to help keep wheelie tendency lower ; can try short shifting into second too. practice should get you in 10.5 or better...lowering bike will help as well... I recomend 2" front and 2" back and can keep the 10R that way or can go 4" back but then be carefull as under belly plastics scrape very easy.. you will need a aftermarket side stand once you lower...

If you want to do go further do exhaust, bcm racing filter , pcbiii with custom dyno tuning and get a extended swinarm extension. have fun.

look into keeping your clutch oiled to make it last longer if you plan to dragrace for a while to get more life out of it....
