Chain W/Extended Swingarm
Quick question, I am looking at putting bolt-on swingarm extensions on my 2000 ZX12R. How many links will I need to get for my new chain for a approximately 6 inches over? Thanks in advance.

Most of the good chains come in a 150 link section already precut. Get a brad type masterlink!!

You 'brad' it on so it looks like one continuous chain.
It doesn't have the clip-type masterlink like you would have on a new bicycle chain from Wal-Mart.

Well, you "can" use a clip-style if you want....it is YOUR bike and leg that will get wacked if the master link comes loose!!!
At the very least, position the open end of the clip facing "backward" (so during use it will not rub up against something and come loose on its own) and use some silicone to make the "clip" stay on better after you get it seated correctly. Clip-style is nice if you swap out swingarm extensions or move your adjustable arm back and forth every week or so.........but hey, what is a few bucks for piece of mind?!?

I will absolutely NOT use a clip type master link, especially on the 12.

I have used a clip type and even double masterlinks, on my chain since oh about the end of 2000.... 0 problems, it is good to silicone it on there, but it is more for me to see it there. Oh my bike has 9000 miles on it and oh about 2500 are on the street the other 6500 miles are, yep all dragstrip miles...... so even if you figure 1 mile a pass, which is a little low. I race 1/8th mile alot. that means I have 6,500 dragstrip passes and have only lost 1 clip but I caught it right away. one trick with using a clip is after it is in and on put a small screwdriver behind the link and tap it tight..... Oh and you can also have your link welded on, seen some of the shootout guys do that....

I lost a clip last week but always carry extras...
It came off because I didnt clean the master link area good enough, so there was still some oil film on it...This time I cleaned the link area with brake kleen 2Xs put silicone on it and no problems of the silicone and link coming off...
Like Mike said using this type of link is not a problem, the problem is proper installation!!!
If the 60" turbo guys use the EK DRZ non-oring with master link, then we can too!!!
