Extended rev limit: DaveO & DBD ECU mod

I will soon get this ($200 + shipping) mod done; it apparently adds 580rpm to the 12's 11.6k revlimiter. SH.org has extensive posts on this issue.

TheMotorHead endorses the mod 110%, so that's more than enough for me. It does take a bit of remapping the AF, so i need to wait till Cheese gets back from vacation.

I'm not looking to change my current 11.2 shiftpoint, rather i just want to prevent going into the limiter. My motor hates going into the limiter, as does my button shifter (in this case Bergie has a point on footshifting, NOT that I wanna ever return to footshifting).

Anyone have direct experience on this ECU mod???

Talking to Brad at BTC Moto Electronics here in the UK about it and he says it also affects ignition timing so needs either a PC3R or a PC3 + Schnitz box to sort it out. On 04 bikes or any others with secondary butterflies it needs those wiring open too.

I am not sold on the extended ECU....

1) If you are looking for more RPM's to carry the power. The extended ECU on our Busa, caused a dip in power starting at redline. I actually lost hp by waiting longer to shift. Tried to map it out on the dyno and could not.

2) If you plan on using it just to save going into the limiter....If the limiter is not where you want the motor to go then why would you want to increase your RPM by 500 and then hit the limiter......If the factory limiter can cause damage, lets see what happens when you add another 500 RPM's and then hit the limiter.

Now if you are good and never hit the extended limiter then I guess it would be OK.

angie,
i am planning on getting it done, but i am not planning on upping my shift point (11.2).

Like you say, i just want a lil more insurance that i don't hit the limiter.. Hitting the limiter seems to be "bad juju" for my heap

Muzzys has spun a ZX12 motor to 14,000... I hardly see where the extended ECU couldnt be a benefit.

Stock bikes with a pipe pull hard ALL the way to the limiter... meaning no drop in power at peak RPM. Add another 550-600rpm...to that.
If I can run the 1/8th in 2 gears, its worth an easy 1/10th & 1mph on a ZX12. Havent you ever been running the 1/4 and ran outta RPM right at the finish??

For $200... I dont see how you can go wrong.

I know after I changed my cam timing, my bike's hp is still climbing (barely) at the revlimiter.....I'd try one.

I would think that the timing of 107/110 is what is needed for the higher rpms.

or DaveO, they both do it.

JCheese has the hookup with DaveO so that's where mine is going, but both of them say that they both do a good job.

Reason I am actually wondering is because if you can "edit" the revlimiter, then would there be a editing limit? IE: raise the limit by 1000rpms instead of 506rpm's.
