Couldnt you cut a bigoll hole in the top...cover it with a thin plate and a few fasteners..and come up with a smaller plenum inside the original airbox? (perhaps needing some supports inside the box to keep the frame as strong as it was before the cutting)

Ive often wondered...given the forced induction application..does the airbox size really matter?

Either way...pimp job!

Ah..I gotcha...if the airbox is internal (im assuming this means it has its own airbox built inside it no?)...why all the trouble of sealing it up?

I have not sat down and thought about what i would charge for this....but i am gonna. There is a hell of a lot of fab work to do this....the frame is sectioned off to allow for the airbox..so you still must make sure leaks are not there and this requires blind tig welding inside the airbox and frame....with a small tig torch. To do one of these you have to have the motor and frame on a work bench. i betcha i had the 2 together and apart at least 20 times making sure everything was correct. If i ever do another...it will be all billet stuff....to cut down on my time ...but of course the price would be the same or higher.

This is a a world class competition bike wiht all the bells and whistles....so i am glad i was able to do this with the rules revisions and such in th eclass....this is the 2nd one i have done.... BUT the first in the world to have a functional sealed plenum....when Adams Performance had the bike they had sealing problems with the bike at high boost....28lbs. This bike is capable of 40 psi of boost with the turbo that i am running for 2005.

Hell i aint even sure I want to do another...this was a month in the making...sleeping,shiting, breathing love making ect ect this bike....25 hours a day

LMAO!!!!

WHat about making a sand cast and just making the frames "sealed" from the mould?

Doug,
"Always having sealing problems?" Except for the occasionl maintenance item we never had any frame sealing problems on the shootout bike frame. Where'd you get that?

Doug,

A national magazine(cant remeber the name of it.) a few years back in the layout done on the bike Muzzys was racing. The article quoted Muzzys as saying the bike had boost leakage lssues around the velocity stacks at high boost where they insert into the TB's and around the frame.....not a biggie I still have that issue somewhere around here...... The article went on to say Muzzys used stock rods and the engine in the SBS bike was the same one that was in the Pro Mod bike..... and Muzzys had never been able to use more than (dont quote me on this) 28lbs of boost.

Thats why i said you guys had problems.....now that was years ago.... and i edited my post...you may have fixed that by this year.

But it is just common knowledge that boost leaks around the TB and Frame where the velocity stacks bolt are just a fact on these ZX12R when turbo charged....unless you build the frame with a internal airbox such as the one i finished last night.

Doug- I think the article you are thinking of was about the ZX-12 ProMod bike. We did not run it over 28# boost. The engine in that bike was the spare from the Shoot Out Bike.
MUZZYS will do the RACE ONLY frame mods for $750 guaranteed to hold 50# boost.

I am reading that mag right now. The mag said The team has yet to completely eliminate leakage where the fuel injectors meet the air box, they still use the stock throttle bodies and airbox mounts, stuff that was never designed to be leakproof, especially not under pressure. Despite these problems it works OK Muzzy says witj a smirk.. that came out of the mag where Shine takes the Busa and out runs the 12. Not a good day for us.

I think that article was done with Rickey after we sold the bike to Kawasaki. Coby had many problems with air box leaks. There were many reasons for that. When we got the bike back in 2004 we completely remade the air box eliminating all leaks. During the 2004 season we had NO loss of air box pressure. We offer those same modifications on any frame we do now. If they quoted me in that article it must have been in a phone conversation about the 2002 bike which had insignificant leakage at the stock air funnel area. We now use billet o- ringed parts in this area.
