PC III Question

OK, I need some help from the experts. About 99% of the time, my computer does not see my PCIII when I start the software with the key on engine off. If the engine is running or if I start it after the software says it can't find the PCIII, it sees it fine and I can download and everything. This isn't normal is it? Any recommendations?
If I shut the engine down, it says it can't see the PCIII anymore. To set the throttle limits, I have to start the engine, start the software, bring up the throttle setting menu and hit the kill button. It says it can't see the PCIII but it lets me set the throttle limits anyway. About one time in 100, it will see the PCIII with the key on engine off. Is this typical PCIII crap? Note, it is not a PCIIIR.

When you start the bike go to "port" and select "auto".

Works everytime for me.

When you turn your key on does one of the throttle position leds on the PCIII stay on?

It is set for auto and I don't have any trouble if the bike is running. It just won't communicate with the key on and the engine off.

Just wondering were your PCIII is getting its power from? It seems to me like it is working like your headlights. Lights come on only after you start the bike and stay on when you use the kill switch. Could it be that the power is coming from the headlight power, or some similar source? Just an idea.

Power should be coming from your brake lights.

OK. When I turn on the key, the leds scan up and down the scale twice and then the bottom led stays on. If I twist the throttle, it moves up the scale. Any ideas?

Thanks

The "light dance" is supposed to run anytime our device is reset. It should happen when you turn the key on and then after that the leds are indicating which of the 9 TP columns you are currently in. So that looks ok.

Now if you start your bike and hit the engine kill switch but leave the ignition on, does the Power Commander stay on? Does it communicate better when you do that?

When I start the engine, the PC starts communicating and everything is fine. When I hit the kill switch, it goes stupid again. However, I have found that if I bring up the throttle calibration page before hitting the kill switch, it leaves that page up and will let me calibrate the throttle.

I've had the same problem for years, and have used this solution for just about as long....
