Thanks, guys. I gave my 15 year old Escort (good as new) to a buddy last night. He goes cat skiing in BC and needs to haul ass on the otherwise 14 hour drive. Glad to hear he won't end up in jail because of the detector.

I don't know much about this but if cop's radar evolved on the same curve than computers, the 15 years old Escort could very well be not up to the task...
Here (province of Quebec) it is forbidden to use detector since about 10 years and the fine is $1000! cdn.

Whats that... about $1.50 US?

If you love your bike, set it free. If it comes back to you....you probably highsided.
I don't believe the basics of radar detection technology have moved forward much at all since Mike Valentine founded Cincinnati Microwave and designed the original Escort. The ability of today's best detectors (the Valentine One) to detect X and K band radar is just about the same as it was back in '86. There are more bells and whistles on today's units, but for basic detection, I'd put that old, rather portly Escort up against any of them. Any of you electron-heads want to take me on on this topic, be my guest.

Uh, I drove thru Canada last December, and radar detectors were illegal... So I thru it under the hatch and hauled ass, all the way from Alaska to the lower 48.
