Muzzy clutch install questions - mid-job :)
OK - got the "hard" part done - the basket and clutch plates are all in... BUT I have two questions for you guys.
1. HOW THE HELL DO YOU TORQUE THE BASKET NUT UP TO 100 ft/Lbs?
I apply preasure to the clutch plates (push as hard as I can) and try to hold the basket in place... but all it does is spin after about 50 ft lbs. I mean, I'm no hurcules, but I can bench 320 and there is no WAY I can hold this thing up to 100 ft/lbs. What am I doing wrong?
2. How do you install the needle bearings into a new clutch cover (for those of you that have done this before)?? I got 2 new bearings (didn't want to try and take the old ones out) but the placement is hard to get to. Did you guys heat up the clutch cover in an oven and cool the bearings in a freezer or something? I'm scared to try that as I have never played around with magneseum before (I think that is what the cover is made from?!!)? HELP!!!
Thanks again for all your help guys... I'm almost there!!!!

almost forgot - I got the nut out with my impact wrench, which I used to put the nut back ON again... but I'm not sure its torqued enough (I zapped the impact wrench up as high as it would go and held onto the basket while the wrench as tightening away - the wrench is rated for about 600 ft/lbs at 90 psi - my setup is at 70 psi currently)... what do ya all think?

As for the needle bearings, I did it the easy way. I went to my local Kawi dealer. They installed the bearings for me for $10. It's a real pain in the booty to do yourself. It was well worth the money to get someone to do it for me.

OKies - heheh here is the "deathpulse bearings made WAAY simple method". I figured this one out all on my own - and didn't break anything . what I did was put the inner bearing in FIRST.. and then I grabbed a deep metric socket that was slightly smaller than the bearing, but not small enough to go "inside" the bearing chamber. Then I attached a LOONG socket extension... grabbed my rubber mallet and slowly and carefully put it in to match the stocker. I repeated the process with the outer bearing, but (obviously) did not use the socket extension . WALA!! Perfect match .
OK - how the hell should I torque this nut now??? I'm so close to finishing...

okies - I'll just close her up again.. got NO idea if it is 100 ft/lbs... but its as tight as my impact wrench will get her at 70 PSi - course that WAS good enough to remove the nut.. so I should be ok I bet .
