2000/2001 Tail Cover Interchangability???
Hi guys. I don't post much, but lurk almost daily! I have a 2001 green (the metalflake looking paint) that tipped over recently, and the tail section is kinda gouged up, and one of the tabs is broken.
I found a (E-Bay) 2000 tail section, but the dealer tells me the 2000 & 2001 part numbers are different between the model years. That doesn't always mean fitment issues, though.
Do they interchange? I really want them to!! A new factory piece is $503.00 !!
Thanks for any help you can give. Oh, btw, what's a good way to fix little broken tabs in the fairing?
One guy told me about using baking soda, and mound it up around the fitting and then drip superglue on it (I actually wanna try that one!)
A body shop told be that JBWeld works OK, but doesn't stick too well for stress points due to the high silicone content of the ABS.
Well, have a great day, blue skys, dry roads!

They are the same . Of course the part numbers are different because the colors are different.

OK. I am hearing that green is not green is not green!
I have heard that this green has several factory variances to it, and it is very difficult to 'spot' in. And the paint is way expensive!
You think the green from year to year will be too different?
And thanks for the tip Dino! I went to their web site. I wouldn't have bought it unless you recommended it though!

Hey. Scratching around town asking about fixing a broken tab, one guy said that he melts plexiglass around areas that need sticking back down. Now he's a dirt rider, but it sounds like a good experiment.
Anybody tried some of that off-the-wall repair? Could (melted) PVC pipe also be used to patch cracks/holes?
Just thinking out loud.

That Plastex stuff is excellent. If you dont use that then just used some busted up stock plastic and use a flat tip soldering iron to plasticweld that back in..

Zone,... pvc won't work on the bikes plastic. ( it's ABS) I've heard that the plastex is just ABS in powder form.

Yup. Using old plactic is what I was looking for! Why couldn't I think of that ...'cant see the forest for the trees' syndrome?
Dino, thanks for the Plastex clue. I ordered the Standard kit ($25.00). That stuff looks awesome, but they really could us some help on their web site ... looks like their web designer is stuck in the 60's....
