Calling all Mechanics( Need Help)
Ok here is the deal. I was riding my bike stop for a moment then notice bike didn't want to start (Like battery was dead). Hey I live on a hill. Rolled it clutch started the bike ran fine. Until I got to my destination then again bike didn't want to start. I took the battery out to check the connections because it seems that the clock keeps resetting itself when I try to start the bike. Connections seemed a bit loose on one end. Tightened it put bike back together. Jump started the bike with my car. Bike fired right up went down the street pulled a wheelie when bike came down everything went off bike stops running lights go dim and then I put the bike up baffled. Please help what could it be. Alternator, do I need a new battery. Now when I try and turn the bike on nothing happens very dim neutral light is all I get. No noses, not even the clatter I used to get when the battery was low. Not even the dials moving when I go to start it. Need help. Please advice.

Battery is VERY LOW, You most likely have a chaging problem.
The bike will run without a charging system, like big racers do, but
you must keep the battery charged manually. Cranking requires the most
juices , so it's the first signal you get that something is wrong.
Then when you ran the battery all the way down it could no longer
fire the coils, it dies. Charge the battery manually and see if things get better.
Have the battery checked either way. It could be a weak battery or dead celll.
That's my .02

If you discharge a battery that severly there is a very good chance it is toast. Make MadMike happy and just spring for a new Interstate battery.

I would be very suprised if it was not the battery. All that you have informed us says that's what it is. Change the battery and make sure you keep it charged if the bike sits for any extended period of time. I keep my trickle charger connected to my garage door opener (in the winter) so every time I open the garage door I get a 5 min charge to the battery. Invest in a charger if you don't have one already.

Probably rotten plates and one was knocked loose if the wheely gave a hard landing impact.
Put in a new battery.

hrmmm the impact/kill sounds suspiciously like a bad connection
even with one plate shorted out, it would still have voltage differential. and the alternator would still be supplying power.
check the connectors where the alternator hooks into main harness. also check the regulator/rectifier unit (if equipped)
as far as batteries go....mine is still the stock unit. it was installed sometime in 1997/1998 period. it sat idle for better part of the year on showroom floor, then sat idle again for 3 month intervals every 6.
stator failed on me a few months after a nasty crash, and i ran battery dead. got stator changed, and recharged battery, and life has been great since.
yuasa sealed battery. it rulz.
street bike will get another yuasa if this one ever dies.
a battery made by gould (GNB) is also likely to be a quality unit. i have seen many a gould battery abused in the name of national defense....glenn has too ;P

I would also say the battery is at its life end, a new Interstate will get you going strong!!

I will check that out as well slug. You have made a good point regarding the connections I too thought it was a connection problem seeing that the clutch is not even a two weeks old.
