BMC's & all Dyno runs completed!
Completed all testing. I re-ran all tests today. Man, I'm exhausted! It's hot and nasty in SoCal today. No bullshit, same day within 6 hours, it is what it is, and I'm really happy with all the results. For a "stocker", she's a runner!
As tested on '03 model, 5187 miles, broken in by the book. DJ150, SAE corrected, # 3 smoothing, EGA sniffer inserted. More comments below.
Box Stock - 159.4 hp, 91.1 tq
Muzzy/Jardine, PC3 disconnected, - 167.0 hp, 91.8 tq
Muz/Jar,PC3 connected, Muzzy map, - 167.9 hp, 94.3 tq
Muz/Jar,PC3/MuzMap, VP Ultimate4 fuel - 171.4 hp, 94.8 tq
Muz/Jar,PC3/MuzMap, VP MR9 fuel - 175.3 hp, 95.7 tq
All same plus BMC Race Filters - 176.4 hp, 97.7 tq
The fuel curves were all really close, varying in the 12.8 to 13.5 area. The last test with the BMC Race Filters proves they do indeed make power, but the torque is what surprised me more. But it's nowhere near the 3 - 5 hp that people claim. Unless perhaps it would be more effective when combined with internal mods. Maybe the fuel curve could be leaned out a little to add more power, but overall, it looked good.
For those questioning the purchase of a PC3. The test results above show minor improvement,more-so on the torque, but the fuel graph was superior. It is much more consistent and smooth with the PC3 & Muzzy Map. And of course you have the ability to modify/adjust it to your heart's content. Especially good (actually a must) when you start to do motor mods.
Bike runs great and I'm very satisfied with all the results. Hope this helps some of those who may be holding back on the mods. Big thanx to Doug Meyer for the tech assistance. The parts he supplied; exhaust, PC3, Map, Fans, Reed Block offs, and Steering Dampner kit, were awesome and I'm completely happy. Highly recommended! The only thing left that I'd like to do, is see what the numbers would be on a DJ250. Is there a standard correlation? It appears everyone is getting bigger numbers on a DJ250. Let the questions/comments begin! Better yet, screw anymore dyno testing. I'm going ridin!!!

Great Post!!!!!
I upgraded to the BMC race filters 1.5 years ago, and bike went from 164 (stock filters) to 168 (BMC Race filters). However the 168 was after they dialed it in.The bike had previously made 167 on the same dyno after installing full akro system, but I did notice the improvement. I am currently running a Velasco built 1361 making 212 hp and nearly 123 ft/lbs torque. And, oh yes, I am sticking with the BMCs.

Awesome Kerry, very nice write-up. Any details on which Muzzy/Jardine pipes that were specifically used? (race/street/megaphone/db/loud/quiet/or that new Muz large-tuber just announced??)
That new one looks tasty; good excuse for a 1270?

Ok. After a nice knee draggin session, I'm back to "normal"...
Dave, exhaust is a Muzzy S.S. 4-2-1, with a Jardine/HRC muffler built to Doug's specs (18" long, 2.25" core). The shell is oval 800 degree, .020 carbon 2 twill pattern w/ti inlet/outlet caps, ti rivet straps, ti large % perf core, using .023 wire mesh and Silent Sport Pillow Pack, ti body clamp, springs & hooks (man, did I leave anything out???). It weighs almost nothing.
Fairly civil exhaust note, but as I noted in another post, I use a 21" muffler when I'm going to the beach or a long cruise. It's about 4dbA quieter (96 versus 100), 20" static test. I just try and be cool in town.
I really don't want to talk shop with Doug for awhile. Because I'm already thing about big power. After watching the Turbo bikes this weekend @ the dyno show, my mind is starting to wander........

Nice info KB.
Too bad you didnt try the stock Muzzy Can vs. the one you made. That would have been a nice comparo.
Thanks for the testing info.

Ah, thank you again. Although I only understand about half of that...
"Jardine/HRC muffler built to Doug's specs"
Might this be an available option for Muzzy owners in the future? Cool...someday if I ever can afford the 1270 I'll get the large tuber. For now I'm stuck w/this...

"K" I have not been the same since the post about "Zhoo", but You Done Good! on this post and I wanted to tell you earlier! It is not easy to do what you posted. A lot of breathing bad air, nasty smells and a lot of time! I never knew that the "Claim" for the race filters was 3 or 4 hp! I felt that if it made 1 HP that it did good! Yours did a little better than that! So very good! Good information that we "ALL" need! Thanks for sharing the information which cost money to make! (Thumbs UP! Thumbs UP)

Who carries the BMC's at a good deal anyway? If I gotta destroy the K&N's to get them out, better have some replacements handy.
I feel guilty (continuing conversation) here thinking of Zhoolie as well Vince...

I had similar feelings when My Mom would say, "I am going to tell your Dad when he gets home! Nothing else was fun that day! My short story is is my first girl friend and I went to churches across the street from each other. It seems like the people in her church were having a funeral about E O Week. So I said to her, your people must not be doing something right, because we almost never have a funeral! Se looked at me and said, your people need more second chances, our people are ready to go! "Zhoo needed no more second chances and was ready to go, We need more time to get out stuff in order! Zhoo never Blew up at me no matter how for out I got! Swft has been pretty cool also "Maybe Zhoo's influence

Maybe just not here! You know a Mother's Prayers, "Do what ever you have to do to save my son, even if that means taking him early"! All I can think is this was the best time for "HIM" (It sure was not the best time for me!!) The more this settles on me, the more upset I get! I am now going through the Could have should have Wish I had, this type of stuff! Worse part, it will just not look right not to see his name on the Board! Matter of fact, I am going back to read some of his stuff tonight!
Fish, can we save some of his stuff somewhere?

My pleasure to supply all the data and info to you guys. For the question about the muffler, I can almost guarentee it would be the same as the Muzzy. I have no plans to market it. That particular muffler would probably cost around $900 retail. I doubt anyone would want to buy one. I actually asked Doug first if he minded if I made one for it, and as usual, he was a gentleman and said it was cool. I consider Rob & Doug friends first, competitors second. Respecting their expertise on this particular model, I would whole-heartedly recommend a Muzzy exhaust system.
VH - and the rest of you guys who knew Zhooligan, I completely understand how you feel. Honestly, I've lost count on how many friends I've lost through motorcycliing over the years; both on the track & street. It hurts badly. One of my closest friends, Jon Woo, who was killed during a Honda tryout many years ago traveled to most of the nationals with me, and many of the original "Superbikers" races. It's been over 20 years and I still think about him constantly.... Especially at a time like this.
I never met or knew Zhooligan, so I thought it not appropreiate to comment. But all you guys obviously cared for him a great deal, so in that regard, please accept my condolences for you and his families loss...... Peace.

Turn 2 (old track) if I recall correctly...hit the cases on the left or something? He was very fast; deserved the HON ride as he was one of the fastest guys at the time f/NoCal...
Knew a few who were also there, but didn't get the ride...U know who...
