ear plugs

how many guys where them when they ride? My rf900 Shoei sings like a pig in heat when I ride and gets to be quite annoying real fast. Is it just my helmet or they all noisy?

Hell, I think they all are noisy. I wear plugs as we do several hundred miles in a day and we're haulin' ass most of the time as well.

If I don't my ears are ringing by the time I get home (not a good sign).

I have a Shoei as well and guys that have had both say the Arais are louder (due to the side plates near the ears) we surmise.

I wear them on long trips. But local rides and racing I run with out them. I have tried using them when I race and did not like it.

You can get one of these from Dennis Kirk. The Basic model is about $23.00. I usually wear ear plugs. I've also experimented wit covering the chin area with my hand as much as I could and it seemed to help quite a bit.

Here is the Deluxe model that also comes in Red and Blue for $43.00

I always ride with ear plugs. Years of working at an Airport, flying planes and riding bikes will hurt your hearing if not protected.

I have become so used to riding with ear plugs that I feel distracted without them. Between forays into a loud tire factory, shooting all the time and riding the 12, my hearing needs to be protected.

Without a doubt, they hinder fresh air from entering from below.

Every ride. E.A.R. has some self forming goop for custom plugs. Gonna encase an earbud speaker in one for the V-1. I'll run a very small tube from the speaker to an opening at the ear canal. Just gotta find the right earbud.

I do pretty well. I am essentially deaf in my left ear (less then 10%) and about 60% in the Right ear. Exposed to to many loud booms early in life. The frequency of the wind noice is part of the range I can't hear! Luckily I have no ringing or buzzing noises like some guys. I do hear voices but that's another story.

Tune 'em in with the fillings, Z?

I find if I chew on a bottle cap that changes the beta frequencies of the dilithium chrystal embedded in my brain (done WITHOUT my consent by the NSA, but that's a different story). Keeps the Blogars out, but the Schmenars from the Oblivion quadrant keep chiming in.

Damn them.

Best thing I have found is swimmers silicone plugs at Wal-Mart pharmacy (or probably ANY pharmacy). They are used to keep water out of your ear when swimming, but they are soft and pliable (like soft wax). I split each one in two, and just use half in each ear. They come in little plastic cases, like 4 or 12 in a case. And the case can just slip into your pocket or glove box. Toss 'em when your done riding.

Just got back from an 8-hour ride, and I have a bit of ringing, but nothing like what you get when you DON'T wear something.

I use 3M's, 1100 series foam ear plugs "ALL" the time. For you young guys out there can you say "TINNITIS" and HEARING LOSS both of which are permanant? If you'd like the sound of constant ringing in your ears for the rest of your life go without.I've got it and it FUCKIN near drives me crazy. At times it sounds like a 737 on take off.
Some quotes from Michigan Mine Safety Noise Basics, regarding the hazards of noise...
"The louder the noise, the more hazardous it is.Also, the longer the exposure time, the more hazardous the noise is".
"This means that a 10 decibel increase does not simply add 10 to the previous level. It multiplies the previous level by 10".
"115 dba has 10 million times more sound energy than 45 dba and is capable of causing 10 million times more damage.
There are many webs sites that you can veiw regarding these subjects and you should take a look.
Just thought I'd share with those who are interested.

huh? wha?

foamy yellow plugs from work, i use them once in the day, then for the week's ride

toss when they start to look a bit discoloured

all the non-believers out there, wear just one plug for a 1 hour ride. then remove it at the end.
