New Rubber fer this season? What to buy?

ALrighty then.... so I am about to throw some new tires onthe bike ... Last season I switched (for the first time in years) from Dunlop... I ran a set of BT010 with a 190 rear... I was very pleased with them... I got great mileage and pretty good performance... gone was the "headshake" associated with the Dunlops...

so now , as I ready my bike fer the road, I am game to try something new...

Perhaps I fancy a set of Metzlers? I am also going to go down to a 180 rear....

so anything else I should consider before I go to the store and buy some tires?

also.. what are the dimensions of the 180 rear?

thanks

Fish,
I just put a 180/55 Metzeler M1 Sportec on the bike Saturday. Took a brief, but spirited ride to scuff the tire in. I liked the way it behaved. But as I've said elsewhere, let's see what I say about the tire in 500 miles.

I still stand by my comments about running the 180 series tire. It's the cat's meow, makes the 12 easier to hustle. If the 180 works good on the fast sweepers (Cherohala, Foothills Pkwy.) during the gap trip I'll never put another 200 rear on again. Well,... that is after I run the new one that is sitting in the garage.

I just replaced both 207's with the M-1's (120/70 front-180/55 rear). Only have about 125 miles on them so far, but can say that I am really impressed with the way the bike feels in comparison to the 207's. With the 207's the bike felt really planted in faster corners, but on the tight ones it just never felt right. Night and day difference with the M-1's on the tight stuff. And as a side benefit, the bars don't waggle when I set the cruise and let go either.

Give 'em a try fish, I think you'll like them.

freek, I haven't found one yet. Maybe a disadvantage will show up when we hit the real fast sweepers in May during the DG5 event. I'm hoping that isn't the case. For my riding around here the 180 is "The Dope".

Also one consideration to this subject...

And first I want to say that I really believe that 180 or 190 will handle better in the twisties but I'd say that it is almost impossible to compare different tires unless You can ride both of the tires same day - and both tires has to be NEW. Because last time when I changed tires - from worn out Pilot Sports to brand new I almost dropped the bike in the first corner because the new ones handled that much Better. Even if they were SAME tires!!! So I'd want to recall that not all of the difference comes with the size. No when I'm still waiting for my bead breaker to mail I purchased the new ST Avon tyres for my next long holiday - next summer. And about the Avons - the first difference I noticed (when they're in my bedroom...) that the rear tire has a lot of thread - something like 7.8mm about 2 more than in any other brand... That promises good for the wear but time will tell how they'll handle...

I've been running the M1's since last year and they are the shit! This year I'll be letting go of the 200 in the rear finally and trying out the 180 everyone is raving over. I went a size smaller in the front last year and the difference is night and day cornering wise. I'd imagine the same reaction to the 180 in the rear.

Kept the 120/70 front and went to 180/55 rear.

I have found that on fast sweepers (120+) the bike tracks okay. Doesn't fall and doesn't stand up, either.

And I haven't noticed any disadvantages, either (not increased wheel spin - which I almost expected). But then again, I'm not usually layin' darkies blastin out of turns, either.

Doesn't take as much muscle to hustle the bike around twisites - the turn in is much quicker.

I'd like to see what the 120/65 feels like.

I just got a new set of Bt010 rear and 011 front. And I also second that NEW tires handle much different than tires ready to give up the ghost.

So far I like the wear I get out of them. Was able to get 4k+ miles out of the front so I'm averaging about 2k a rear. And I ride pretty hard. Performance is okay - but the front tire is what I'm worried about. Front tire wanted to lock sometimes before I was ready for it to.

Perhaps the 011 will work better in that department. We'll see (that's what they are putting on the Gixxer 1k now).

How many miles are you guys getting out of your M1's?

Fish... I called my local dealer and he quoted me $103.77 on the front tire and $132.88 on the rear. Have no idea on how good a price that is.

120/70ZR17 FRT = $83.13

Subtotal - $207.56
Shipping - $16.00

Question for you guys.

I drag my 12R but want to run a tire that handles good on the street.

Of these tires what should i go with

Sportec M1
BT010
D208

I am currently running a 200 Sportec M1

Also will I see alot of difference in the 190 from the 200 as far as the traction goes. I would like to try a 190 instead since they are to handle so much better

Running, or should I say RAN since this season hasn't started yet, M-1's last summer Rear is squaring off from our "tour" which involved a bunch of interstate droning. I'll run another rear to finsh off the front. I like these tires a lot but may try the new Avon 45/46 Sport Touring next for a little more distance.

I drag a lot too Supraman, but I did not notice anything at the strip when I went to a 190 Michilin Pilot HPX. It *seemed* to take a little less air pressure at the track though..... Possibly to get that extra little width.

I ran the Dunlop at around 35-38 psi and the Mich. was happier at 28-32.

I weigh about 150 suited.
