That's right - the fookin' SHERMANATOR!

I just want to let you boys know that Sherbil (AKA 'Pastor Elk' AKA 'Red Elk') has now been christened 'Shermanator'.

Any man that takes a 12R to a small, technical track like Hallett, OK (1.8 mile circuit) and come away from it without wading it up or pussin' out is a hell of a man in my book.

There are many elevation changes (one hill then sharp drop on a straight right before a hairpin left) and rough patches on the racing line.

Bart, you better watch out at the next DG. The Shermanator is gonna take yer ass out on the outside of that left sweeper.

Hell, Elk offered to let me ride his beloved 12 and I politely declined - I didn't want to wad his love child up in that hair pin.

Yeah, what ever.

I don't know why he's spewing that crap. Allow me to give a few illustrations...

Here's pic of jonwright and myself in basically the same location in one of the curves. Notice the green sticker on the front of my bike ("street" class) and the orange on on his bike ("racer" class).

It was a balmy 28° with a 10~20 mph wind (16° chill factor), during the riders' meeting. By the end of the day, it had reached a swealtering 43°. Waiting for the track to warm up was never really a factor (or possibility).

... and here's the "group" shot with bike/best lap times.

Triumph RS 1:43 / ZX-12R 2:00 / GSXR 600 1:28 / GSXR 750 1:53 / FZ1 1:48

The average lap times for the CMRA Expert Sportbike Sprint class are 1:25~1:28. The track's overall lap record is 1:18.52 by Sam McDonald on 9/30/01.

So go figure that some guy who knocks out 1:30's almost every session and caps it off with a 1:28 would be talkin' stupid shit about me. Remember, that 1:28 was done on a totally stock and street legal GSXR 600 with street tires as well as the track temp never saw anything close to 65°. Put the boy on a REAL race bike (he's never raced) and their would be some folks gettin' their butts seriously spanked.

Here's a video of a lap of the track in a SCCA car.

http://www.hallettracing.com/hotlap/HMRChotlap_ccw.wmv

Notice the "recently smoothed out" patches that are in some of the curves. Still, it was a pretty decent track and fairly smooth (even most of the patches). Except for lofting it going over the blind hill after the first turn, a pretty fun track.

Dood: This is about you, not me.

Hey, I was afraid of that 12 on the track. I didn't want any part of it. Building up a head of steam and then slowing that fooker down for the turns would not be an exercise in abandon.

Plus, I don't mind wading up my bike. But hurting your love child - I'd have to commit suicide immediately as I couldn't handle the guilt.

You maned up and went out there. On a friggin' 12. How many ZX's you think have seen a track like Hallett? Hmmmm???

Dood - next time out - it's gonna be ass. Straight up ass. And you are kickin' it.

Just don't fret that hamster fooker on the Ducatti buzzin' by.

Yeah, and when I was followin' Sam's son on that little 250 I was at work, man. That little fooker can roll that 250. But I learned a bit about braking (i.e. I'm too damn early - and I still think I got a little to work with).

Now, about dragging the gear shifter.....

Here's how most, no... everyone saw the Ducati rider coming and it's exactly what I got to see up close on several "street class" sessions. Don't know if it was the same rider, but the bike did a 1:26 during one of the "racer class" sessions.

Even after lopping off another 20 pounds on the 12R (headlight and tail light complete assemblies, horns, signals, tool bags, etc.), it's still a bitch to slow down for turn 2.

Speaking of wheelies, there was a guy on a CBR900 doing standups on that same turn as the Duc man above. He would loft it and just balance it just right without speeding up.

I was very impressed but by the time I got my HUA syndrome fixed and grabbed my camera they ended the session. You didn't get a shot, did you?

No, but what I can't figure out is if a white number plate is an "expert" and a yellow is a "novice"... what class is blue masking tape over the headlight and to hold the rear footpegs up? JW getting ready to take some "experts" and a "novice" to school.

I would assume that the Shermanator found the track plenty fast? Didn't need a 180 mile an hour straightaway to get your attention I'll bet! One of the funniest and also disgusting things you can experience at a track day is have afriend video tape you. The bastards always tape you in slow motion!!!

I would assume that your day gave you some real fun along with some improved skills. Hard to beat track time.

Freeze!!!!!!! or you'll be Shermanated! Kind of scarey!!

What got my attention is how fast the brake markers painted on the track came up!

Improved skills? not this trip. Too cold and too preoccupied with what was happening around me. Lessons learned? You bet! It's a shame that most of them are best left at the track and not brought on to the streets (i.e. ignoring what or even, if someone is coming up on you).
