Best Battery for a Big Bore
Looking for a new battery for my 1361, and would like one w/ more cranking power than stock. I've read posts about the Interstate (gel) battery, but haven't read any details on it or any other battery that's presented a persuasive argument for switching from stock.
Thanks,

MB,
MadMike will weigh in on this topic! But basically the OEM is 170? CCA's, Interstate gel is 220? CCA's with 5 sec of 500+ CCA's. I am getting a 280 but it will not fit in the battery box. When the 1361 gets hot the OEM doesn't cut it (my experience).
good luck!

Entropy - did you try going to -5 degrees on the PC3 at 1000 rpm? Since yer only there when starting, it really doesn't affect anything except the ability to start.

swft,
I haven't yet done the -5 at 1000,1500 but will this week. what fuel are you running at the same rpms. I'm thinking of bringing that down also

I talked to the store, Interstate just relased the YTZ14S 230 CCA battery that is actually smaller than stock. Do you have any thoughts on this one?

I tried retarding the timing at cranking rpms but had no affect. Cracking the throttle a little helps immensely. Original battery on my 00 turning my big motor over fine. I'm sure I just jinxed myself though.

The correct battery to use would be the "YTX14-BS", now I am experimenting with the larger "YTX20-BS" but I do not have any information about that one yet, If I can get it to work you will have slightly more weight then stock, but the AMP's and cca will go up greatly. by the way, FYI for you guys the "New" Batteries have greater cca. the 14 is now 210cca, and the 20 is 310cca. hope this helps and if I can get the 20 to work I will let everyone know ASAP!
