Chain Lube
"New" post for ya!!
A couple of my buddies and I are arguing over who offers the best chain lube or wax. I have used Silkolene, Honda Pro chain lube, Suzuki lube, Kawa Chem, and I have always liked PJ1 "won't fly off" in the blue can.
What do you use and what works best for the $$? Lube or wax? Just trying to see what the collective Bikeland world thinks.......

My choice: PJ1 blue can.

Alisyn. Originally made by an Engineer in Columbus Ohio. You must "Seriously" shake the can to mix it. 20,000+ miles out of my chains. Pripr to this, I was a Chain Wax user, but a rainy trip to Ohio cured me! I could hear the chain about every 50 miles when wet and 300 miles when dry out!http://www.aerospacelubricants.com/cgi-bin/beacon7/AL?ID=MANIFJZHq1a&details=491

Chain Wax sucks.............I'm suprised you even tried that stuff Vincent. PJ1 black cap won the chain lube test that Don did a while back. I use Mobil 1 15-50....one drop at a time on every o-ring between every link. Doesn't last very long......it flys off the chain pretty easily. But it has like ZERO rolling resistance and is slick as all get out. It also wipes right off the rim......not like chain lubes. Gotta use a rag soaked in WD40 for chain lube.
So the 15-50 requires more maintanence......but for the least rolling resistance,,,, and easyist clean up, try the Mobil 1 sometime.
Especially for Maxton, Vincent. When I spin my wheel with the bike up on the stand, it just keeps goin', and goin', and goin'..........

You have scared me! I put carboard under the bike and behind the bike and spray WD 40 into the chain and let the force be with you throw the dirt off! Then Using paper Towels, clean it! The Alisyn is extremely slippery!
Chain Wax was New and I was tired of Chain Lube! I am now experienced!

GM Super Lube. It's a chassis grease suspended in a solution that evaporates leaving the grease in the rollers. I've been using it for years and love it.

I will try the Alysin Vincent. I'll bet that GM Superlube is good stuff too. You guys should try the Mobil 1 15-50......at least once. On a CLEAN chain. If you do let me know what you think.

When I ran NEP Nylon Sprockets, I used TriFlow (Teflon impregnated Oil) Had no wear on the Chain or sprockets. When regular lube was used, the sprockted would get hot and melt! The Alisyn also has a neat can with a mount for the tube

BelRay Super Clean ...sometimes.
Ive found the best "lube" is to keep the chain clean with kerosene or WD40. Works great on the big bikes and makes the chain last a long time.
My 2000 had 20k+ miles on it and the chain looked brand new when I sold it.

I agree with TurboBlew. No matter what you use, motor oil, wax or sperm oil, keepin it ....CLEAN.....! and oiling regurlarly is the key!
'specially for you PacNorWest riders that get so much rain-soaked dirty-roads.
We get sandy roads here on Florida, but the water / dirt combo you get up north lifts that crap up onto your chain..... and it must be cleaned , not just oiled, to get the grit out.
btw, right on HDL, JP1 blue top. Cheap and tacky.... just like my wimmen!

I was wondering who was going to bring WD-40 into the mix! One of my good friends runs an industrial supply shop. He told me to start using something that the big oil rigs use for lubricating their chains. It is Lubriplate Chain and Cable Fluid in a green and gray can. Works great!! I also have used ZEP 45. That shit works wonders on anything I have tried it on.

Absolutly......keeping your chain clean and free from dirt, sand and grit is as important as keeping it lubed. I use kerosene and put a $2.00 aluminum pan underneath the chain and clean it spotless with a parts washer brush and tooth brush. Kerosene is a natural lubricant to begin with. Won't hurt o-rings. A LOT of propelents in pressurized cans will though. Like the propellants used in a lot of chain lubes. And maybe WD40. Don't know which ones specifically. The propelants can destroy o-rings.
Suzuki manuals aways say clean with kerosene and lube with gear oil, and NOT to use commercially sold chain lubes.

PJ1 Blue Label for most part. I try and lube it every time I get Back from riding while the chain is still warm

I use chain wax, WD40, and or Tri-flow. The fact is we are merely lubing the externals of the chain. These products work well in controlling the rust and are not a mess to clean up. The O-ring chain really does not need much for maint.
