World record for measured highest top-speed ZX12R?
Who has the unofficial "World Record" for proven, measured top-speed on a ZX12R? As far as I know,
Doug Meyer has been the fastest with 205.145 MPH (a distance of five miles) at Bonneville Salt Flats, Wendover, Utah August 17, 2001.

I (Bergie) have been 204.722 MPH in a standing-start one-mile at ECTA "Maxton Mile" in October 2002.

Has anyone else had a proven higher recorded or measured top-speed on a ZX12R? If so, please post the details.

That's pretty impressive Bergie. To go less than 1 mph slower than a Muzzy-prepped top speed bike is a big accomplishment. I have one respectful question, and I honestly don't know the answer to this, but does Maxton average 2 runs in opposite directions, like in Bonneville?

There is of course the other issue at Bonneville known as traction! Bergie's 204 is great, but Dougs 205 is very resptable because of the conditions. Also if I understand the bonneville setup Doug average 205 for a ameasured distance. As opposed to attaining the speed for that moment. It would be interesting to see what actual top speed Doug attained to average 205.

WOW that is fast! So... how come the mags can only run the '12's up to 194? What kind of prep/mods to the 200+ '12's have? Are they running big bore, gearing upgrades?

It's called modifications and gearing. Neither Doug or Bergie are running stock bikes. I believe both are running 1361 motors to start with.

Dean,
Only one way at Maxton, sometimes it can work in your favor & sometimes not. Last march under almost calm conditions (slight tail and side winds) I ran 202.247mph and this past September on the same bike with nothing changed I could only muster 194.500 due to the 12-15mph constant headwinds.
My exit speed was faster but they average your entrance and exit for the official speed.
This was done on my stock bore/stroke '00 12 with minor tweaking, they are awesome machines.
Some buddies are taking a car to Bonneville in August and I was invited, even had room in their trailer for my bike but due to work I can't go. I would love to see how fast I could run because the bike was still accelerating at Maxton. Bonneville is tougher because of the salt and altitude but you do have a tad farther to stretch it out.
Dan
BTW, I believe Bergie's is somewhere around 1347cc to keep it in the 1350 class, plus he's got a little juice. The bike will run 200+, eight's in the 1/4 and he rides it from the motel to the airbase.....COOL!

My two-way average at Bonneville was 203.471, the 205 was a five mile terminal speed. The Muzzy bike was a 1340, over 200 hp. Remember, to go from 195 up to 205 (about a 5% increase) would require a 16% increase in horsepower. To run 205, the bike was geared for 220 - the loss being in wheelspin.

Actually I rode my bike 8 hours from my house to NC and ran maxton and back home 8 hours more in one weekend back in 2001. I've been an "official record" speed of 202.593 on all motor, but conditions were absolutely perfect on that day. My best "official record" speed since was spraying nitrous in top gear 202.899 with an exit speed of 204.722 and still accelerating because my entrace was only 201 and change... But as Dan mentioned both my 204s are not good for records just a timeslip. Maxton is also traction limited, as I couldn't get the bike to hookup until 3rd or 4th gear on motor and forget using nitrous anything less than top of 5th gear or 6th. Gearing was 18/43 and 18/44 on my runs.

Also I didn't ask if the question relative to "stock motor" I asked about top speed on ANY ZX12R. Big cubes, nitrous, or turbo... the question is WHO IS THE FASTEST TO DATE?

Aren't there a bunch of British guys with turbos shooting for top speed honors? There must be a counterpart to John Noonan's 246mph Hayabusa out there somewhere.
It looks like Doug might have the normally-aspirated record.

All of the British article I have seen on top speed runs are fairly low. But when you read the articles it appears that they are limited on the overall area / length to run in. No 5 mile straightaway. So it is more like the Maxton Mile stuff in contrast to the wide open spaces of Bonneville.

Didn't I see a 207 terminal speed by Doug @ Bonneville? But the run was "averaged" over both direction runs? That would make it the fastest...
Oh, & Bergie- why do you not run tire-warmers before your runs at Maxton? I see your spinning a lot; perhaps warming up a "scuff" before the run would help?

I saw an interview with him and they ask him he could honestly tell the difference between a 5 sec run and a 6 second run. He said absolutely. The six second runs are dog slow!
