clutch pull rod

Ok guys i didnt see a real topic on this issue so any help will be greatfull

2000 zx12 r
muzzy clutch kit from muzzy
the stack height is right ( dont remember what it is right now)
3 muzzy springs hard
3 oem sprint soft

muzzy presure plate.
oem clutch basket.
the problem is the pull rod that sits in the middle and the arm that grabs it.
The puller arm break of the head off the puller rod..
its griding it down untill it just falls off. Just put a brand new one in yesterday.
One ride less than a mile and snap its off again.. HELP this is my 4th one
takeing it to the shop but would like to know why this keeps happing.

Your stack height is off...Or your clutch cable adj. isn`t at the right angle and is cutting into the rod....KZSCOTT might have some better adj. solutions for ya....

You can add an extra cover gasket.....But you really need a billet basket before you really have more problems....

i replied to the pm
check the bearing/washer behind the pressure plate.
Stuart is referring to the angle of the pull rod where it attaches to the cable( stack height, gasket thickness ect affect this). theres a pic in the factory service manual that shows proper location to get it to engage properly inside.

Once it starts cutting the head off the puller, you can catch pure HE"LL to make it stop.
1. check the bearing and washer inside the pressure plate, replace bearing if any doubt.
2, Check the trans output hole to make sure its smooth, ( i had to polish mine )
3, use new or make sure no burs on the pull rod where it goes into the trans output shaft.

Any resistantance the rod will spin (at or near engine speed) against the puller and BURN it's way threw in no time.

Well the manual gives you a range on the stack height sometimes you might have to adjust the stack height into the lower/upper range to get you puller in the right spot....Maybe add a 1.6mm steel or a 1.8mm,ect..ect.. Lots o measuring.....

I was at the tallest end of the stack height n my puller didnt line up exactly the way it is in the manual plus i dont have the little free play in the lever, maybe cause i used all heavy springs but i have had it this way for almost 2 years n not a single problem, also when i changed it i changed the cable n puller n rod n bearings, the old puller showed little wear from the rod head

heavy springs in no way impact free play

the muzzy kit doesnt come with new bearings for the pressure plate or even a pressure plate or puller rod unless they changed the kit? last i checked it was the clutch pack with 2.0 steels, modified hub and sleeve, so the rest would be oem...

@stuart your right it is oem sorry
@kzscott looking at buy new parts now then. some reason i thought it did. but what do i know i am new to trying to do things myself.
its at the shop now just cant afford to keep having the rod break after a half of block ride.
so if they break it they will have to fix it..

LOL,
I know that feeling.
Still cheaper to buy a few parts than pay shop labor.
Do you have a picture of the puller?
Did it pull threw or burn threw( blue melted steel)?

If it's burned, the center puller is spinning because of drag somewhere.
No stack height will fix that.
Make sure you put the bearing and washer in the pressure plate right .

gets so bad that the arm needs to be filed down to pull it out the hub.

I will get pics of it today

Thats why its good to go with a lock up because you can run verry light springs and no pressure on the rod like those hd springs you are running.

i had 6 heavy springs and no issues except the puller arm was not happy. i was short on stack hight and it killed the puller. made it hard to slip the clutch with it stiff like that.

last time i did a new clutch i had to have all but 1 1.6 steels and a 2.0 steel. most will say a bit taller than max hight is not real bad.
i like to have the bike start to pull out someware around 1/3 off the bar.
if you have it (or them) set cable wise that it enguages almost all the way out it may be just pulling all the time hard on the arm.make sure they oul the puller bearings good also and have the plate and bearing in the correct order.
or they do not have the puller arm in and the tower piece is not in the notch of the arm. my brothers zx9 had that happen.

Man how bad is it leaking? Ask him to look at the cam pos. sensor seal too like Scott said, to make sure...Sometimes you can live with a couple drops of oil a month if it`s not that bad. Or untill you get your money straight..;...$70 oil change,yikes.......

well first you have to have a place to host your pictures. i use facebook.
either way when you have the picture someware on the web click on it and view
it. when you are looking at it right click it and then normal click on properties.
next you should see a address which is the location where it is. hilite it blus(the whole thing cause it may not all be visible till you start hiliteing it) then right click it while blue and click on copy.
next you go here and put a [img] your copied url address of the picture goes after the here is a example

give it a try.
