After it has all cooled down, check to make sure the level is full. While the cap is off, start and wait and see if the water starts moving after the bike warms up to see if the thermostat is opening.See if you can find some coil cleaner and flush the outside of the radiator, you would be surprised at what can collect in there. As Scott has asked,is the fan coming on? If I remember correctly, the A1 had issues with the fan melting on the motor shaft so when the motor kicked on, the fan didn't turn. Muzzy fan solves that problem.

So you would need the HT-H12 fan. Also don't use straight antifreeze. It doesn't transfer heat well.

Whats your definition of overheating? Is the gauge going into the red or flashing?
My definition of a working system would be the fan coming on in town or when stopped at lights.

hey thanx for the reply dude. yep i agree with what your sayin, but she konks sometimes when hot (not in the red, just under) and then she wont start coz she is too tight, like flat battery ya know! this is only just started since the weather over here in the uk is hotter than usual, but even so that shouldnt make any difference should it.

the idle is set at 1000rpm same as when i got her. sometimes she wavers up and down so i adjust on the adjuster on the right hand side near the throttle body.

Manual says 1000rpm for idle but many find that too low, I have mine around 1150-1200.
Does it only have a problem restarting when its got really hot or does it do when you do something ordinary like stop for petrol? How old is the battery, it may be on the way out.
My fan comes on with the needle at the 10 oclock position. It will hit 11 oclock sometimes but not stay there for long. When does your fan kick in? I have sat in grid locked jams in London in 35 deegress of heat and the bike has coped fine.
Does the water in the expanson tank bubble up and boil when you stop the bike? If it does that would indicate a knackered rad cap.

HEY. ONCE AGAIN THANX FOR THE INTEREST SHIGGSY. she only has the problem restartin when hot. the battery is the same one as when i bought her. i have no history as i bought her blind. from a company i used to work for, write offs and breakers, mostly cars. the water does bubble up when i stop her so it may be a faulty rad cap-hope so. the fan comes on the same time as yours so i may be just worryin bein the flapper i am. just dont want to lose her to a head gasket or somink daft.

No problem, these boards have helped me out holes loads of times. Definitely fit a new rad cap and up the idle. If you get a chance, check your battery voltage, should be about 12.6v at rest with everything turned off. Life of these batteries tends to be 4-5 years.

Get a new radiator cap, I think you can find a 1.6 bar one, or get the highest pressure one you can find. When filling, bleed very carefully per the manual and make sure you've got all the air out of the system. Load check the battery or just get a new one.
