breaking oil pump shaft

what can cause an oil pump shaft to break?

I have experience with an oil pump shaft breaking also. Snapped in 1/2 with a surgical knife clean break.

nope that wasn't the cause in my case .. i just think it was just worn out parts ..

worn out oil pump ... you would think the cases would get the slop being aluminum vs steel gear and shaft .. installed new oil pump and shaft in and problem solved .. i could see wear marks on the old gears and i think it was causing drag ..
