D208 on 03 12
I noticed the 03 12 is sporting D208s. Anybody have any info on this tire? The Dunlop rep said the tire is rounder, tuffer, lighter, and easier to turn in than the 207s.

208's were standard on the 02's also. I liked the tire but my rear went away really fast, 2700 miles, and I'm not that hard on it. The front has 6100 on it and is getting ragged so I'll be pulling it off shortly.

My 02 came stock with the 208's...I dont like them. The Bridgestone 010's are a lot better in my opinion.

Everyone needs to remeber that OEM tires are just that OEM. The tire that comes on the bike is not the same tire you or I can buy on the street unless we buy an OEM tire from Kawi, Suzuki, Honda etc. I'd becareful making decisions based on OEM tires. The factory does not pick the tire as a best tire for the bike. It is the best buy at the time for them! And they buy a tire with a different spec then the tire we buy. Check the numbers on your tires and try to buy the same tire from Dunlop or Bridgestone. You will get a different tire! My experience is it will be a better tire.
The factories don't buy tires buy the set or even buy the number of tires. They buy by the ton.

ZH, I have a slight difference of opinion about "Kawasaki" and their OEM Tires. Since I bought my 1984 "900", and tried a bunch of other tires, I finally ended up at the "DEALER" handing him a folded note asking for the OEM Tire. He read it out loud and everyone pointed at me and said he cannot ride! he wants a "STOCK" Tire! I liked the tires on my ZX11 and the 00 ZX12R! The Difference in the 11 & 12 are that the After Marked Dunlop's were nearly identical in feel!
I am very interested in the D208, because of the difference in construction!
I did not know that it would take longer the heat up, but felt it would "Last" as long, but stickier! Now I have doubts!

Hey ZH...correct me if I'm wrong, but I THOUGHT the 207's and then the 208's exspecially, were specifically designed for the 12.
Any truth there??

There's a quote in the silver book that says the 200/50 was made especially for the 12, but the Dunlop 207 & 208's aren't ZX-12 specific.

Dave is corect/ The 207 was around before the 12 and unfortunately in my opinion the 208 will be here after the 12 is no longer made. The 200 profile was built as a result of Kawisaki wanting the bragging rights of having the biggest tire.
And Vincent's comment above about OEM tires is also a good one on some models. On occasion, not every time the manufacture actually hooks up with a good tire. A numeber of magazines gave kudos on the OEM tire on the GSXR 1000 as an example. But that said the manufactures make decissions based on $$. And the manufactures do buy by the ton not the piece when it comes to tires. And the 208 is a light weight tire. I have ridden the 208 race tires and like them, I have not tried a 208 street tire.
Manufactures make many decisions based oncost. If you all recall the original mustang. It appeared to be narrow in width. And it was. Lee Iacoca (sp?) who was the brain child at Ford in those days figured out that if they narrowed the car something like three inches they could rail/ship the cars side by side. Thus shipping costs for the factory was exactly 1/2 as much. This was of course not passed onto the consumer, but it did look good on Ford's bottom line!

If my fading memory is correct; is not the stocker a D207ZR? (For my 00' it was.)
Also, was not the design intention of that tire to incorporate 2 steel belts for high speed usage?

Personally,
I always liked Metzlers. Steering is neutral, heat up extremely fast, stick like fly paper. If you are hard on tires based on the way you ride the soft compound will probably only last 4,000 max. I'm not that hard on my tires and love these tire. Check out the Rennsports!

In regards to the silver book, are you talking about the Silver embossed Ninja book that came with the 00 model 12? I have one, I'll have to go take a look in it. But...the 200 was first used on the 12? Serious?
Even though the 190 is 10cm smaller then the 200, doesnt it sit slightly higher? Are there any other models that currently run a 200?

EastBayDave - your memory hasn't faded completley. That 207 was on '00 & '01, 208's on '02 and '03. And yes it had steel belts, I had heard that but I wore one down and saw for myself too.
Yes bb, that silver book. I think now there are a few cruisers, like the Road Star that use a 200, but I don't know any other sport bike that does. It's not always the widest tire that's the best for some people. You may prefer a 190 or even a 180 for handling purposes.

Of course I noticed this at work, which is 35 miles from home AND it was at night.
My '02 has 7200 miles on it. This will be my 3rd set of tires. No smokey burnouts or super craziness.

Remind me to check your bikes out if we go riding sometime. I like to know the guy riding with me is on good rubber because I really don't need to be taken out by a frigging blow out deep in a corner with one of you guys, or while drafting at 180.

Well the other suggestion might be to take the Mille Tires and put them on the Busa since the mille spends little time on the center of the tire and then put the busa tires on the Mille because we all know the edges of the Busa tires are used for much other then holding air!!! Then you can spend your money on tires for the 12!!

I guess I will just have to suffer because I NEVER have to park a bike due to the weather.
I thought that I would have HP withdrawals when on the Mille, but
I really don't notice 'only' about 110 RWHP. Why can't our bikes be
this light weight?

Mine with a chip and the racing exhaust, and derestricted (clip a wire going to the computer, remove the snorkel in the air box put out 119 at the rear wheel. And yes they feel light but they turn even quicker!

I put on an akro slip on.
The 02 does not allow the wire to be cut.
I will either chip or power command it
I removed the snorkel restrictors and sealed the ramair tubes to frame with some foam.
I also did the FULL race style airbox mod, where the fuel tank is now the top of the airbox with a taller filter.
I did the bigger velocity stacks. I also went to the earlier model's rubber air intake. The EPA types and other manufactures really cracked down on Aprilia.
I am still working on it.....
We finally got a dyno about 60 miles from here. I was going to Phoenix (200 miles) for mapping. I had my 12 done, but not the Mille
