OK. Now that makes sense. It was clean where it connected together. I'll try your "quick fix" first. Maybe a little dirt or something got inside the switch.

Let us know if it works!

Per Daves recommendation, I tried the "quick fix" he described above.
It worked !!!!!
Now my bike also starts like it is supposed to. With the clutch pulled in, also in gear with the kickstand up.
I really appreciate you helping me with this Dave.
It was a simple fix, but it was driving me crazy.
Thank-you again.

Thanks to Daytona Dave,
The quick fix worked for me. Is there a problem with the
02 switch that was NOT a problem on the 00?

quote: My 02 is doing something very strange. It will only start if it is in neutral with the clutch out. If you pull the clutch in it will not start (it does not matter if it is in gear, kickstand up or down).
After it starts it runs and acts normal.
I don't recall doing anything to cause this to happen.
Has Muzzy full system, PC111r, Yellow box...but I don't think any of that would matter?
02 with 4000 miles, has anyone ever had this problem?
Only thing I have tried is disconnecting the clutch lever switch, and the bike would not start at all.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Let me get this straight, if its in neutral it will start, if you pull the clutch in when it is in neutral it wont start ?

Wow...what a flashback ..LOL..
I just came in from a ride and found an e-mail notification from a 5 year old thread
I have had that switch act up many times over the past 5 years. I have replaced it only once.
Every other time it malfunctions I just take flat head screwdriver, or my knife, and snap the button a few times...works every time.
You'll know the switch has malfunctioned when your bike will not start with the clutch
lever pulled in.

I also thought that this thead sounded like old.. But anyway, that has happened to almost all Kawasakis I have known and the quick fix works for some time but I have found that opening the switch (wich is easy) and using some punch and a hammer will make the contact areas a little bit "highe" and after that the swich has worked now 7 years. Had the same happen on my ZX11 too and worked many years after the fix.
