if you are talking about your 04 theres 2. they wont melt. they will pull more air thru the rad. the stock plastics fans can be damaged by the heat of an aftermarket exhaust in racing or city traffic conditions

never use distilled water in an aluminum radiator........only soft water,,,ie low alkalinity
I have read the opposite it the way to go......but a water treatment pro says it is the most detrimental thing to do.......do some research......I reserve the right to be wrong

the 7-R has that same uber-hot issue. at times, the blades will get so hot, they'll melt and lock the motor up, blowing the fuse on a bike thats already poorly laid out, electrically.
for $35. or whatever it is, it's cheap insurance agains a day of disassembly, scraping shit off your headers and rad core and cleaning up burnt melted plastic!!

Muzzy price 79.90
58cycle sale price 77.90 reg price 85.90
$2 diff(on sale)...you need 2 fans for your 04....
i really dont think you will find much better than that unless you can find used fans(very rare).
you could invest in a roll of header wrap for probly $50, wrap the pipes, and not need the fans

I went to the link you provided and the price after I click on Add to cart it came out to $159.80 so $79.90 each fan..... http://www.cartserver.com/sc/cart.cgi When I was at 58cycle the price is as you mentioned above....so that's a big difference in price....so what you are saying is Add to Cart is automatically adding 2 orders which I will get 4 fans if I paid $159.80....??????

yeah for some reason its automatically making you order 4... wierd(just tried it). if you decide to order from Muzzys, call them to make sure. you need 2 fans, not 2 sets of 2.
i think the cheapest option is header wrap though. thats what i did for dads bike and its fine. Muzzy sidewinder with header wrap. one stock fan keeps it cool. i used some of the extra wrap on my pipe by the oil pan and by the foot peg. the modified pan is very close to the pipe, and i used to melt my boot on the pipe(not anymore with the wrap).

My A1 muzzy fan will occasionally make noise. In addittion to the fan and water wetter, I installed a manual fan switch. W/O the switch, when the temp got high enough to turn on the fan, the fan alone was incapable of keeping the temp from going critical. When I turn on the fan before the engine gets too hot. the fan alone has always been able to hold the temp down.
