big bore reliability?
How many of you with big bore kits have several thousand miles? A friend of mine is giving this some thought. He just doesn't want to end up repairing it all the time.

Hi,
I have had the 1270 kit for 1 year , this month, and have put 10,000 miles on it. There is a total of 19,000 miles on the bike now, a 2000. I have not had any issues with the motor. Of course it tends to run hot in the summer here in Florida. I am planning on adding a dry kit soon, but if I had to do it over again I would skip the big bore kit altogether. Not enough performance increase for the investment. You can run a 2 stage dry set-up with the stock pistons and get 250 hp.

1270 kit - no issues!!!
Broke my freaking leg before I was able to put alot of miles on it!!!!

Turbo, what is your friends endpoint goal?! That will determine what he should do,,,,,,,piston kits are NO big deal!!! Remember the zx12 is no busa so we with a stroked motor can only attempt to match the cc's of a mere piston kit busa!!!

I guess it all depends on what a guy wants. I like the grunt and torque of my 1361 motor. NOS is fine for the kick hit burst but you only carry so much NOS. MY 1361 effectively takes care of 99.99% of the bikes you run into and then a flip of the switch, push the button and the NOS takes care of that .01%.
I don't worry about the wear and tear of the 1361 kit, but I am mindful of the NOS and the potential disaster of running it for too long and or or to often.
I would definitley do the 1361 again.

Mine is one of the lowest powered 1270 kits around, 180 last time it was on a dyno. I am still going to try and improve it though. The reason I would not do it again is becaus of the high cost of the kit and installation. Unless you do it yourself it is just too expensive. I wanted to go with the stroker kit originally. I would still question this now, for me, because the lower powered bikes around here are pushing 215 hp already and most are closer to 250 hp. So, even with the stroker kit like ZHooligan I will still need nitrous, just like he said. Even the Hahn Turbo Busa has 260 hp so 250 seems to be where the bar has risen to recently. The horsepower escalation has been dramatic. Sure, the nitrous system isn't going to be any good for sustained top end runs but really, just how long do you want to stay at WOT when your covering 300 feet per second. I run with 17/50 gearing, because I have more opportunity to do rapid acceleration runs then top end passes. A Turbo kit is looking better and better, you can even get off-set triple clamps.
