where should i go to buy my new sprockets, and which ones?
this busa lives across the street and i cant have this going on for the next 2 months.
also does anyone prefer a 180 rear to the 200?

I have 17/48 set of sprocket specialties sprockets ill sell ya. Rear is the hard anodized version. (They are used...approx 3k miles on both)
*Edit...actually now that I think about it...I really need a new mirror silver face shield for a HJC CL12 Helmet. I think helmetharbor has them on sale for 29.99 each. If you order that and have it shipped to me...Ill trade you for the sprockets

correct me if i am wrong, but is it not best to buy new sprockets with a new chain and have them all put on at the same time? i appreciate the offer, but i am a big fan of buying most things new (with the exception of a rear stand, front stand too that i desperately need).
i'm prepared to spend so that i can beat my buddy's busa over and over and over. he actually had the nerve to post a "kill" on labusas zx12r forum. we cant have that shit happening, and i refuse to be the reason and fuel for that garbage.
so........where can i buy the proper sprockets , which brand, and is it something that i can do myself or is this a deal that must be done in a shop buy a good mechanic?

Thats fine...Just offering a suggestion. Id prolly be leery of buying used sprockets as well There were no broken teeth on the rear sprocket...just normal side wear. and the front looked brand new. I had no problems with it...just switched to 16/44 gearing.
If you want to buy new..go to www.parts411.com...they had the best prices on the net for Sprocket Specialists sprockets.
New front was around 25..and a new rear was around 50 if I recall correctly.
Either way...good luck!

so how mucu top end do you lose when going to a 17/48 setup. will just a 17 in front, or a 48 in back be enough? or do i really want to do both? putting the 17 on front seems like a job in a half, wheras putting the 48 on the rear seems a hella lot easier. oh and im not leary, im sure your stuff is in good shape. but my bike is brand new and i dont mind buying brand new stuff for it.

17/48 made the bike run out of rpm around 175 - 180mph Its about a 10% loss of top speed.
17/46 would be around a 5% loss...so you could probably still run into the 186 limit.
Only downside of 17/48 is that you lose about an inch of wheelbase as the axle is pulled ALL the way to the front of the adjustment window. just a 17t will actually gain you a half inch of wheelbase or so.

Of course it hit 175 in a big hurry! I run a 17/47 most of the time.

jason, before you buy that front sprocket i suggest going somewhere and making sure that you can get the nut removed.
just last weekend i went to my brother in laws to have him try out his 650 ft/lb air wrench on my sprocket because neither I or my weightlifting buddy could budge mine. we even tried using a cheater pipe to no avail.
anyhow my bro's 650 wrench wouldnt budge it either.
he was shocked, he never saw anything it wouldnt move.
he is working on semi's all the time and has no problems.
so, if you do get your nut off, i have a brand new 17 tooth for sale to your door 25 beans. i paid 30

Bag...are you sure you uncrimped the lock washer on the nut?
No amount of force on earth will get that sumbitch off if you dont pry out the end thats crimped down.

keep in mind guys that i'm not drag racing at the track, i merely want to consistently beat a 99 stock busa. i think the 17t by itself would do the trick. if i ran a 47 on the rear and a 17 on the front would that give me a wheelbase somewhat near what i have now, maybe lose half an inch?

Learn to ride. Bone stock a 12 should beat a bone stock busa as long as riders skill are the same.

Jason, just go 16t on the front. The 17t only is hardly much change, i could barely feel any difference and doing rollon's (back in the day) against a stock busa it is still too close. If you want to pull him and never stop pulling him, then just do the 16t and practice practice practice your roll-ons before you race him. When you do race him, using a 16t have your rpms at 4000 when you say go and you will KILL him!!!!!!!! Dont let him start the race when you are not in your power band,,,,,the secret is to control the race by just holding your rpms and make him catch up or slow down to YOU!!!!! Don't worry about top end, cause you will be so far ahead that he can't catch you before you run out of room,,,,seriously! Also, with that gear you can hit the rev limiter in 6th no problem so watch that and just hold her at 11,500 and your speed will still increase for awhile.

The real advise is just what ra12 said. You control the race. Make him start in your sweet spot not his. The Busa makes it's power differently. They make more torque and horsepower below 7000 rpm then the 12. Don't let him get catch you between gears etc.
My mildly breathed on VTR Superhawk with a 112 horsepower, and four teeth bigger rear sprocket will spank the 12 (and has) initially (up to about 90) when I can pick the rules. Otherwise it isn't even in the game or on the same road.

I saw your post over on labusa. Man you let the busa have it all! No wonder he kicked your butt. My Zuma might be able to put up a good fight with youu as well! lets start at 5 miles an hour and we both have to be in top gear when we start! You can't use any clutch either as I won't be (don't have one either!!)
