My .02 I love these threads also! First, I was one of the "Last" people to get away from Car Oil! Always used Vavoline such as Turbo IV and All Fleet! But when I read a lot about Oils and they went to SJ, Even I knew it was time to switch rather than fight! I tried 20 (or is it 15)W 50 Mobile 1 I liked it "After" the engine warmed up! Heard a lot of noise if the bike had sat for a few days! Read some more articles and then knew why Mobile (and a few others) had gone to a "Zero" weight Oil Higher Speed that the oil can travel to all of the parts since it can sometimes take as long as 2 minutes and 30 seconds! Reallizing that the clutch was not happy and the Oil was too slippery to stay on the parts, I looked some more and realized that "ANY" Motorcycle Oil was better than any Car Oil! But I wanted better than that!! So reading again and speaking to my mentor Kevin Cameron about Oils, confirmed the 2 minute problem for complete oil circulation! Then talking about different oils I asked how Motul was able to keep the engine Quiet on start up! He stated that "Motul is a French oil and that there are a Lot of Grapes in France! That Grape seed Oil has a real tenacity for sticking to everything and that it was used in Motul!
Armed with this knowledge, I bought some Motul, but hated the awful price for 300V and did what I could to get it for about $11 per Liter! Finally they came out with E-Tech 100 for about 1/2 the price! Been there ever since and everything looks good in the engine and I even like the Fuel Smell from the exhaust! Actually this may be more like .25, but who is counting my money besides me (Never had any problems with Spectro and I did ruine a 1025 Kawasaki Race Engine with Castro GTX and then only used R40 Their JoJoba Bean Oil! Took a lot of cleaning, but no failures!
To sort of quote someone from a favorite TV show "hey Hey HEY!!, let's be careful out there (with Car Oil)"!!

I would have to say honestly, that if you are running a motorcycle rated oil and change it religiously every two thousand miles you should never have a problem. After that it gets down to brand loyalty and availability.
That said Redline is my favorite and if it isn't available I am going to Target for Mobil 1! Why hell I even own a MOBIL Station!!

Amsoil, I could post so much info on it that proves why. I don't want to waste my time typing away because everyone has their own thoughts. If you are interested, I will post what I know. I am a dealer and HAD to learn all the technical stuff that people are throwing around.

Mobil 1 all the way, as I imagine the people that build the Dodge Viper, the Corvette, Porsche Carerra, and Mercedes read about oils as well and if its good enough to put in their stuff it's good enough for my 12!!

Again, ANY pure synthetic is overkill, and you don't have to change it every 1 or 2 thousand miles. You can go 5 thousand miles safely. Lab tests have shown pure synthetics being safe to use with OVER 20 thousand miles on it. Every 5 thousand miles or 1 year, which ever comes first. Don't WASTE your money. Yes, Amsoil usually ranks first in comparisons but Mobil 1 is extremely close.
