Rode a Z-1000

My hands are still cold. It's a GREAT ride. The FI works very well. It's pretty zippy, no flat spots. The handling in the "esses" is awesome and it stops HARD (cause it's lite). This is bike is going to get a following. We're going to get to work on it......

Thanks for the report Doug.I'm pretty anxious to catch a ride on one myself. From what I've been told the bike really shines in the tight stuff.

Ya didn't get a chance to "snatch" a few wheelies did ya? I bet it will be a great wheelie bike.

Doug, you guys in Bend have any decent slip-ons in the works to replace those ugly sum bitches?

Very easy bike to "snatch" wheelies on for sure!
Our dealer has a demo and I spent a little time on it, fine riding bike and the brakes were great.
The rear fender comes off easily for a much cleaner look. The black one needs the black seat from the orange bike, paint the side covers to match the bike and presto.....great looking scoot that's a hoot to ride.
I was really surprised how much wind protection is available from such a small screen.

Dan,
I am really ready to ride one. I think the bike has great potential. Good to hear that it wheelies nicely, I figured it should.

Is the "on/off" nature of the 12's FI solved with the dual butt/TPS setup?

Absolutely. The bike feels "analog" not "digital". Kind of like CV's only better.

The bike "carbureted" as good as my sons new R1 and that's saying alot.
I'm from the old school (still have a '78 KZ1000 I bought new) but the Z1000's pipes do nothing for me.
Like Rick said....great bike for fixing up.

Definately sounds like the 'around town' bike I've been looking for. My ZZR is great for highway miles, but is a bit unweildly parking in the city. Kinda reminds me of that other big silver thing I own.

I still think I'll get a REX instead...
I AM thinking about the Z1000 though...
If I get the ZRX...I don't care what it takes...it WILL have FI when I'm done with it...maybe a TURBO also
I'm working on a 03 ZRX with one of those TurboTech turbos right now...183+HP "so far" and 124+TORQ!!!...
Gotta luv that light 1000 though...

Of course! Gotta be the first thing that comes out is a pipe for the newest Z-Bike. Make an already light bike even lighter. I may be different than most; I kinda like the four pipes. It reminds me of the old Z-1 900. Perhaps that was KAW's intent?

So what did you guys think of the "mini-fairing?" The ZRX's is small enough, I'd think that little thing on teh Z-bike would be absolutely useless?

That's a nuther reason I prefer the rex Dave...

I keep looking at the pictures of the Z...HOPEing it wil grow on me...
I've just GOT to have a FI bike...it has GOT to be a sit-up bike though (neck/back can't take low bars anymore )...I'd buy the ZX12 we have on the showroom floor if that wasn't the case!!!

DOUG...how torqeee is that little thing???
I for SURE don't want a bike that has to be reved "high" before it makes any power...
I need to go read the specs again...(STROKE X bore)...

It's got really great mid range from 5 up. Go ride one, you'll like it (just remember it has about 50 hp less than a 12 with a pipe). Chip Ellis has one and he was raving about it at Gainesville.

I sat on one today, no chance of riding it though.
You lean over more than it looks like you would. The seat will push you forward to the tank (I hate that).
Kinda funky looking, I dunno about the pipes. Might be better if they weren't yellow.
I looked for a while and couldn't figure out how to get the seat off the damn thing.
Looks fun, needs a better seat.
