Stock plates are the best by far. We use 'em in all our bikes.

we've had a mixed bag with baskets though. We've had them last for ages and also some that just went BANG.

Generally a crack from one of the locking pins????

I actually had a stock basket doing 1.31 and 1.32 short times..........

I think my easy clutch set up is what saved it all these years.........

Just in case, I dropped in a Billet Basket last year.

check your stack height! if its too low you will eat up those rods in a hurry

actually it will eat the arm up worse on a high stack height. Just look at it and think, on a high height the arm will only grab by the tip, on a lower height the arm will grab more evenly and distribute over more surface area on the arm itself.

not really.... when its in the middle or low, the piece is angled, so its trying to shove the puller sideways as it pulls it. that jams it sideways in the shaft from the trans, making it even harder to pull. I went thru pull rods at the first of last season with low stack height. figured out the problem(added to stack height), and went the rest of the season with no problems. and i was running 6 hd muzzy springs (way overkill)
but you are the one going thru rods right?

When I went on the high end the actuator wouldnt make it one night , the tips would wear immediately, when I went lower it pulls and wears evenly on all of the flat side of the actuator, it lasts longer but it still wears.
It needs to be right in the middle when actuated.
Thats been my case.

6 brock springs at first. then I shimmed them a tad.
I didnt have time to play with the clutch as I was playing with the dope and then it went kaboom.
Motor is sitting on my bench and I cant get any one to work on it or help me, I am about this close to sending the head to ape or carpenter.

zrexpilot,

Not sure about your race rules but an idea might be to get hold of a puller rod holder. You can get them now. You glue (loctite) them into the hole where the puller rod and actuator make contact. Inside the clutch cover. It supports the puller rod. I don't see why it wouldn't help on a standard set up.

A silly question is when was the last time you replaced the clutch cover needle bearings and the flat bearing between the puller rod and pressure plate?

you can get MTC to install their bearing in the cover, and i think Muzzys has the same thing.
when i was just testing my bike out after the rebuild, i ran everything from my mtc lock up except the snowflake... so it acted like a stock clutch, but had the bearing support. i had modified my cover (for looks), but if i hadnt, i could have just ran the bearing support and had the rest completely stock. it was just really easy to pop the snowflake in later, so i did it that way...
i think its about $30 for just the bearing support though. good idea Wolf
